A Florida teacher shared anxieties with MSNBC Tuesday that he won’t be able to talk about his love life with his kindergarten students anymore due to HB 1557.
Kindergarten teacher Cory Bernaert reacted Tuesday to news that Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis had signed legislation banning classroom discussions of sexual orientation and gender identity for Kindergarten through 3rd grade (ages 5-9).
“It hits hard in my heart professionally and personally,” he said. “Professionally it truly makes me feel like I am not trusted as a professional. I know my kindergarten standards through and through and nowhere in our curriculum does it have anything about teaching sexual orientation or sexual identity.”
“We should be able to have discussions and that’s what we’re encouraged to do in kindergarten,” he said. “My kids do have questions. They want to know who my partner is in pictures outside of my classroom, and I should be able to speak to them.”

Funny, I have no recollections of my kindergarten teacher ever discussing her spouse with us — I don’t remember my high school teachers telling me much about their personal lives. And referring to the kindergartners as “my kids” instead of “my students” seems like quite a tell here.
A man who teaches kindergarten.... that lights up the gaydar immediately.
Leave your personal life at home you sick freak.

Good.
Fifty years ago this person wouldn’t have been allowed anywhere near a school.
Dude, leave your sex life out, there is no “s” in the three “r”s, that these children should be taught.
When have kindergarten teachers ever shared their love lives with kindergarteners?
Never.
Why does this guy think he has to do it?
Would a hetro teacher “discuss her love life” with her kids?
Just gross.
As far as I know, the bill doesn’t prevent him from answering a kid’s question. It just prevents him from teaching certain issues.
In a just world this pervert would not be allowed to “marry” another man nor be around little kids.
Ditto. I'm still trying to figure out why it believes it should be sharing its life with Kindergarten babies. Why do these fockers feel they need to ruin a child's innocence? The more they push, the more I hate them...and I didn't use to.
Why would anyone, straight, gay, whatever be sharing their personal life to kindergartners?
from my grammar school 40 years ago, I can't remember 1 detail about my teachers' private lives. They wouldn't discuss it, and we certainly would not have dared to ask. They didn't try to be our "friends."
That just pegged the needle on the gaydar meter. The District School Board and Superintendent should be liable in any child abuse lawsuits brought by the parents of any of those kindergarten kids.
Fire it on the spot. (BTW: I didn’t open the door on using
off color pronouns. This person may in fact identify as an
it. Who knows these days?)
Heterosexuals who do the same thing should also be fired.
These are children years ahead of the time they need to
learn of such things.
Love life? Why can’t the partner be introduced as a very
good friend and leave it at that?
Children don’t need to know it’s a love life. Period!
What do they know about love, except their parents or
siblings?
Honestly, I don’t care for homosexuals in positions of
authority over children, and this is only part of the
reason why.
He shouldn’t be teaching children
My kindergarten teacher got married. One year she was Miss Mancini and the next year she was Mrs. Bernard.
That’s all we knew about her love life.
“The more they push, the more I hate them...and I didn’t use to.”
Me too.

It’s sort of like Veganism. Vegans can’t stop talking about
their lifestyle. It gets to the point you feel like telling
them to shut up. I had a family member doing it, and I did
have to confront them about it. They couldn’t stop harping
on it, and it was very annoying. Every meal out, we had to
discuss the topic.
Welcome to the land of the homosexual. The very same dynamic
comes into play.
Everyone must know. Everyone must buy in. Children should be
raised to consider being one.
It’s in their genes or something.
