Because the "separatists" were trained in Russian FSB camps and sent over the border with the help of Russian troops, just like Russia does in all its "separatist" carveouts, like in Georgia and Moldavia.
Exactly. The Russian people don’t have their hearts in this war
Who cares how they got trained. If they are fighting for what they see as their autonomy its their right. Kurds do the same. Karen in Burma. Are they fake? The Iranians,Turks,Syrians etc might see kurds as fake. So the Burmese junta the Karen
Perhaps you can draw up a list of separtists you see as fake and ones you see as legitimate. And post it
Who cares how Russian soldiers and Russian PMCs were trained to invade another country and create a pretend Ukrainian separatist region?
I feel like that's a subject that should cause concern.
If they are fighting for what they see as their autonomy
Imagine Mexican soldiers invading Texas and then complaining they are "fighting for their autonomy".
Zelensky on the war with Russia remains unhindered and fundamental, i.e. the recognition of Ukraine’s international borders as of 1991.....
He has the inside information.
Pootie has lost the war. The shelling and bombing of civilian targets (murdering poor bastards in a bread line!) is an admission that they can’t beat the Ukes in the field. Their last hope is to terrorize the populace into demanding surrender. That will work as well as hitler’s blitz on London.
If I’m the Uke command authority, I like the situation I’m seeing on the map. The soviets are extended over a thousand mile front shaped like a horseshoe. The problem for them is that they’re on the outside of the horseshoe. The Ukes have the interior lines.
After 3 weeks the soviets have gained little ground while taking enormous losses in men and materiel. US sources say they have committed 70% of their entire military to Ukraine.
I can see the following scenario. The Ukes continue to attrit the soviets for the next 10 days. Then launch counteroffensives in the east and towards Crimea. I would not be surprised to see mass surrenders of soviet troops like any undiciplined conscript army.
So, Zelensky has a fair idea how this will turn out.
During almost all of the last 200 years most of Ukraine has been part of the Russian Empire or USSR. So what territory was Ukrainian and what was Russian was largely a matter of Imperial management.
Crimea has been contested ground between Slavs and Turks/Tartars for 600 years before that. Before that it was ruled by Greek speaking Byzantine Empire. Before that the Roman Empire. And the Persian Empire before that. Implying that Crimea is somehow an integral part of the Russian homeland is pure fantasy.
How about Igor Strelkov, Aleksandr Borodai, and the late Pavel Gubarev? None of these people were Ukrainian, yet they had titles like "the governor" of the DNR/LNR, and other high positions, after being sent into Ukraine. Strelkov has fought as a soldier of fortune working for the Russian government in virtually every modern Russian conflict from Georgia and Chechnya and later in Ukraine. Also not Ukrainian, but a Russkie with a military and FSB background.
I want to see a list of separtist movements you think aren’t fake? And the reasons you think they aren’t fake. You are suggesting there would be no pressure for separatism in Ukraine without Russian interference. Is that correct?.
It’s called Negotiation 101. Always demand a lot more than what you expect, especially if you have leverage. And Zelensky three weeks into the war has a lot more leverage than he did at the start. If you don’t demand more than what you expect you will end up with less than what you want. People need to read the Art of the Deal. So many Trump supporters, very few have actually read the book.
All Russkie separatists movements are fake. Including the one in Crimea, where Sevestopol, during the fake referendum, had 125% voter turnout despite no reports of anyone actually voting in mass numbers, and the only news in Crimea on the day of the election being that of a protestor getting kidnapped--on video--by Russian military, who was later found tortured to death and with a knife plunged through his eyeball.
I don't know why he instead went bezerk and tried to grab it all in a hurry. Perhaps he is very sick and feels out of time. I don't know. But he clearly miscalculated horribly, and there is no good way out of this for Russia now.
Same could be said about anywhere in Europe and beyond. You seem to be suggesting the geographical location of Crimea means it belongs to Ukraine. It was Russian even before there was a Ukraine. France was celtic at one time. Is it French now or Celtic. Part of France was Englands. You see where I am headed. Piles of dirt do change hands. But at some point you just have to say some place is French. Or Engish. Or wait for it... Russian
It’s Russian nonsense just like Chinese nonsense when the Chinese make arbitrary claims on their neighbors’ territories saying it was always a part of China until recent times when it was unfairly taken away from them. The Chinese do this for several reasons, one of which is to use as leverage in negotiations as they are doing with Bhutan.
Any others apart from Russians? Seems less than impartial
Crimea wasn’t taken away. It was given away by an illegitinate commie super state. I think Russia well within it’s rights to have reversed something the commies did. Unless you agree with the commie Khruschev
“by recognizing Dumbass”
Lol. I have always wanted to call Donbas that. You beat me to it.
Goodbye, Ukraine! If they think Donbas is going to submit to the Galician domination after all of this he is seriously mentally troubled. Then goes the south. After that the “defenders” did in Mariupol there is no loyalty left to the state.
Perhaps in your infinite wisdom you can spell out the criteria that makes one separitist movement legitimate in your view and another fake?
Good analysis. Russian infantry and tactics appear inadequate for the Ukrainian battle space. Putin will probably pull it off, but it won’t be through military prowess.
