I would like a Trump and DeSantis ticket. Then that would set up DeSantis to run for president in 2028.
Exactly.
Nearly identical language is reiterated in the Twelfth Amendment, altered as follows: "The Electors shall meet in their respective States, and vote by ballot for President and Vice President, one of whom, at least, shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves...."
The way this has been interpreted, is that the President and Vice President cannot be voted upon by the Electors of any one state should both the President and Vice President candidates be inhabitants of the same state as the Electors of that state. Since both DeSantis and Trump are inhabitants of Florida, that would deny the right for Florida to have its electoral votes counted, and therefore violate the equal protection of law under the Constitution.
This is a rather convoluted interpretation, but all entirely within the wording of the Constitution.
And would make Trump the first presidential candidate to run for the office three times from three different states - New York, Florida, and TBD, maybe New Jersey,
DeSantis needs to stop pronouncing his name DEE-SAN-tis. Too confusing. Once he makes that change, though—Bam, good to go. LOL
“I would like a Trump and DeSantis ticket. Then that would set up DeSantis to run for president in 2028.”
That is how I see it.
