Nebraska congressman faces high-stakes trial in California

A little-known Republican congressman from Nebraska will begin a high-profile trial Wednesday in California over accusations by federal prosecutors that he lied about illegal campaign contributions from a Nigerian billionaire.

The trial of U.S. Rep. Jeff Fortenberry in Los Angeles will be the first of a sitting member of Congress in 21 years and could all but end the political career of a congressman seen as a reliable conservative who coasted to easy wins but isn't a familiar name outside of Nebraska.

I admit I hadn't heard of this but it doesn't look like it's going to amount to much of anything.

Nothing, of course, from MSN about Hunter Biden - a far more corrupt and dangerous low IQ POS than this congresscritter.

Not to mention Hunter’ss child-groping father and his vice-Ho.

The Left has been seriously politicizing prosecutors offices for decades.

As the Left does not value the rule of law, they lose little by destroying it.

China gains a great deal by the weakening of the rule of law in the USA.

I didn’t know there were any real Nigerian billionaires. We’re they asking the congressman’s help in getting their money released from a Nigerian bank?

Until I hear more, this sounds like the start of an election year strategy by the Rats.

Remember, Obama received millions in small, anonymous donations that were said to come from overseas accounts. All the joke alphabet agencies ignored this.

The United States does not have Rule of Law. If we had Rule of Law the Clintons and other Democrats would have long ago been in prison.

The United States has the Golden Rule: He/She who has the Gold Rules.

The United States has The Rule of Power Rule: The Powerful Rule.

You probably heard Hillary Clinton say, "We have the Rule of Law, not Man". Yet she who has committed every crime known to man and a lot that are not. Remains free as a bird. Of her other accomplishments: She is the only person fired by a Democrat for lying.

The media picked up that quote from her and their parrots did the rest.

About Lawfare: A Brief History of the Term and the Site

Lawfare went live on September 1, 2010. Ben’s first post set forth our general aims and, belatedly, our reasons for selecting our title:

Welcome to Lawfare, a new blog by Robert Chesney, Jack Goldsmith, and myself. For those readers familiar with our prior writings, our subject will come as no surprise: We mean to devote this blog to that nebulous zone in which actions taken or contemplated to protect the nation interact with the nation’s laws and legal institutions. We will, I am sure, construe this subject broadly to include subjects as far-flung as cybersecurity, Guantánamo habeas litigation, targeted killing, biosecurity, universal jurisdiction, the Alien Tort Statute, the state secrets privilege and countless other related and not-so-related matters. . . .

The name Lawfare refers both to the use of law as a weapon of conflict and, perhaps more importantly, to the depressing reality that America remains at war with itself over the law governing its warfare with others. This latter sense of the word—which is admittedly not its normal usage—binds together a great deal of our work over the years. It is our hope to provide an ongoing commentary on America’s lawfare, even as we participate in many of its skirmishes.

Jeff Fortenberry (R) On May 19, 2021, Fortenberry was one of 35 Republicans who joined all Democrats in voting to approve legislation to establish the January 6 commission meant to investigate the storming of the U.S. Capitol

Jeff Fortenberry (R) In December 2020, Fortenberry was one of 126 Republican members of the House of Representatives to sign an amicus brief in support of Texas v. Pennsylvania, a lawsuit filed at the United States Supreme Court contesting the results of the 2020 presidential election

Very odd. He did the right thing then later he went with establish the January 6 commission. They got to him?

Nebraska congressman on trial in Los Angeles. Such BS. You never see Democrats from communist states being tried in Texas or Oklahoma.

The article’s fourth word is party affiliation. Guess the party in that case.
