WASHINGTON— Today, Republican Study Committee Member Rep. Yvette Herrell introduced legislation to require the Food and Drug Administration to produce a report and recommendations on regulatory barriers to domestic manufacturing of medical products that are critical to public health during public health emergencies.
In the earliest days of the pandemic, China threatened to halt lifesaving supplies of medicine to the United States. This highlighted a glaring need to reshore our supply chains and make sure Americans would have access to lifesaving medicine and medical supplies during public health crises.
The Protecting American Lives Act (PAL) Act of 2022 would help begin that effort of reshoring our medical supply chains.
Rep. Yvette Herrell said: “I am proud to introduce the Protecting American Lives Act, which would require the FDA to identify rules and regulations that make it difficult to produce lifesaving drugs in America, so we can clear them out of the way and bring our pharmaceutical production home from China. We cannot entrust the health of millions of Americans to authoritarian regimes, especially in times of global crisis.”
RSC Chairman Banks said: “China should never be able to put us in a similar situation again. If our nation isn’t secure, then we’re not free. The Republican Study Committee is proud to partner with RSC member Rep. Yvette Herrell on this important bill.”
The PAL Act is supported by Heritage Action for America and the Coalition for a Prosperous America.

Excellent, this should have been done months ago
Yes. President Trump wanted to do this exact thing.
Of course, blocked by Congress and its puppet masters on Wall St.
Another thing Pres Trump wanted to do is make sure the vital components of our electrical grid were made here in the US and not China. They got rid of him. He’s gone. China still makes our stuff. Grid goes down, we’re screwed and hostage to China.
Most of our pharm came from Puerto Rico, who had favorable tax rates. Then Clinton came in and removed the tax credits, forcing the pharm industry to leave.
This should have been done years ago. I checked my medication to see where it is made. Outside of China there are a few Indian manufacturers, one Israeli, two French and two Irish. There was one American supplier. Without the medicine I would die.
At the very least we need to make a “fortress America” with the Western Hemisphere self-reliant on most products.
Trust the FDA?
Will she survive redistricting in Nov?
Not much, but more than the CCP
