Here’s how Putin protects himself from assassins and coup plots
NY Post ^ | 3.4.2022 | Bruce Golding

Putin’s bodyguards are hand-picked for qualities that include “operational psychology,” physical stamina and the ability to withstand cold and not sweat in heat.

They’re reportedly outfitted with special briefcases that serve as shields to protect Putin and carry Russian-made, 9 mm SR-1 Vektor pistols loaded with armor-piercing bullets.

Before Putin travels, advance teams scout out his destination months ahead of time, checking to see how the public will likely respond and even if the area could be affected by bad weather or natural disasters.

Wherever he’s going to stay gets inspected, jamming devices are installed to prevent remote detonation of bombs and technicians conduct electronic surveillance of cellphones and other devices in the area.

On the road, Putin rides amid a convoy of heavily armored vans that carry military special operators armed with AK-47s, anti-tank grenade launchers and portable anti-aircraft missiles.

And when he steps out in public, four rings of security surround him, starting with his personal bodyguards, others hidden amid the crowd, still more ringing the perimeter and snipers perched on the surrounding rooftops.

Putin and Biden have one thing in common. Neither one can openly face their people.

There’s also his 400,000 man Praetorian Guard:

Note that Ramzan Kadyrov the Chechen terrorist is one of the key men in that palace guard unit. Given the way Praetorians have traditionally had first dibs on leadership transitions, if Putin dropped dead, Russia might get its first Chechen ruler, courtesy of Putin. Heck - a Chechen almost ended up replacing Yeltsin:

9mm... armor piercing? I want some of that!

Always wanted to get into 5.7 too. I wish the P90 didn’t look so goofy.

So, I guess just making a quick midnight dash to the Russian equivalent of the White Castle is a ‘No Can Do’.

Any horses he rides bareback will have their foals taken as hostages to guarantee their good behavior.

As the Roman Empire demonstrated, a Praetorian Guard is a fine thing, until its leadership starts getting uppity and decides it wants a role in choosing the Emperor.

I call B.S.!

How are they supposed to dissipate excess body heat when the ambient temperature rises? Pant like a dog?

Fine "bodyguards!" If they don't perspire, they will keel over in no time flat!

Is there anything in this description that is different from how a US president or any other major world leader is protected? I suspect that the US Secret Service does all of these things.

There are far more people trying to kill Putin than an average US president. Seven attempts on his life so far.

All kings have traditionally had to balance the powers of their military commanders and deliberately set them at each other’s throats for precisely this reason, to keep them too busy to plot against him individually or collectively. Alexander’s Companions whacked his entire family after he died. We get the cleaned up Cliff’s Notes versions of many of these things, but the history was, in reality, wheels within wheels within wheels.

What a load b.s.

Putin literally plays pickup ice hockey games and drives around the city himself. Escorted by security no doubt. But the portrayal of him here as a complete shutdown is false just like so much else of this propaganda.

Herod the Great whacked some of his own sons, because he feared they were plotting against him. Many kings were like that.

Game of Thrones was inspired by history.

[Why does this remind me of the mob?]

Kings with real power have always had dangerous subordinates. The ones who failed to take the necessary measures to balance the threats to the throne while protecting his heirs often precipitated the end of their ruling houses after they died. Alexander was one example. Boris Godunov was another one:

Saddam Hussein did the same, but Vlad does it 20x better and 20x more intensively.

I seriously doubt that they use AK-47s, as that hasn't been the frontline Russian rifle in decades.
