KHARKIV, Ukraine — In a downtown government office building, men and women in military fatigues carried rocket-propelled grenades through hallways lined with ornate white crown molding. Others had AK-47s with loaded clips slung over the shoulders. Sandbags rested along windows as protection in case of potential blasts. A public bus pulled up to the building. There were hundreds of boxes of bullets inside.
This was the scene of the makeshift headquarters of the Ukrainian Territorial Defense Forces in the eastern city of Kharkiv on Saturday morning, right around the time artillery strikes from the Russian military hit the area for a third straight day. Even as the smell of sulfur wafted through the streets, more than 100 people waited in line to join the civilian reserve force.
Anyone between 18 and 60 can join.
It’s the sort of civilian insurgency that Ukraine is counting on to help fend off a Russian military that has significantly more manpower and firepower. President Volodymyr Zelensky tweeted Thursday, “We will give weapons to anyone who wants to defend the country. Be ready to support Ukraine in the squares of our cities.”
Ukrainian Interior Minister Denis Monastyrsky said in a video message that volunteers in Kyiv alone were given more than 25,000 automatic rifles, about 10 million bullets, and rocket-propelled grenades and launchers.

The servants of power in the Ukrainian Borg, and the war hawks in both parties and their echoes of the blue check brigade across the west want people to believe a hypothetical “western liberal” future wouldn’t be a near first in that poor vassal state, but never mind the facts, in the fog of war propaganda it’s a time for emotions only.”

I’ll say again - Saw row of 15 -20 guys lined up learning how to fire a rifle and the saddest thing I ever saw.... in a war they cannot win.....going up against seasoned Russian soldiers.
Expect a lot more “civilian” casualties.
Yes we are being lied to. “civilian insurgency” from people that have never handled weapons before? I don’t see that strategy as being anything but bad for the insurgents themselves. Reminds me of when hitler was handing out weapons to old guys and kids, it was obvious it was going bad and about to go a lot worse… for them.
Zelensky should be shot for putting young kids up against seasoned Russian soldiers, the ones I saw in trying a week ago didn’t even know how to hold a rifle....very sad to watch.

Often I see Zelensky as seeing himself doing his latest script for a movie - dressed for the role and knowing his lines. However whoever put him there only needed a younger face with the ability to play the role and it was a go.

Seasoned Russian soldiers do not exist. They are smart enough to get the hell out.
While Zelinsky is staying in Kiev near the fight, I see Putty Putin is not on the front.
Most of the Russian soldiers are conscripts.

If you believe that Ze is in Kiev then you also believe in a tooth fairy. Guess why the Ukrainian delegation comes for peace talks to Belarus “through” Poland?

As for your "seasoned Russian soldiers", the Russian conscripts who surrendered look young and lost, anything but "seasoned".
It’s nice to see the Left advocating for nationalism, inviolate borders, and civilian ownership of military-style rifles. Now if we could only get them to do it for our country . . .
Now that guerrilla warfare has begun, expect a lot of casualties on both sides.
We’ll see how long the Russian population can stomach the casualties. I remember in 2015 and they were piling dead kids up in Eastern Ukraine that were Russian and all the interviews with the families.
I think a political solution will find its way to the top of the agenda pretty soon.
