The Dominican Republic became the first country in the Latin America region to scrap all of its COVID-19 restrictions - as infections dwindle despite barely half the nation being vaccinated.
President Luis Abinader announced the suspension of the preventive measures while addressing the Caribbean nation Wednesday evening.
Abinader did away with the mandates that obligated the use of a face mask, social distancing and coronavirus passports to enter public places.

Smart play. Now they’ll have more tourists to poison with bad liquor.
Bwahahaha!
How about the legality of jab requirements from employers? How about censorship on deadly jabs? How about the guv still permitting, let alone pushing the jabs?
Good for the DR. One of my friends is visiting her family there right now.
lol...cool!
Time to vacay in the DR.
really dude? bad liquor? That was several years ago and the people responsible for that went to jail after if was traced back and a chemical analysis was done. Since then ALL liquor and beer is sourced from more reputable sources. D.R. is cleaning up financially since they’ve stayed open the whole time the last 2 years. We’ve been twice in the last two years with zero problems. And their President is like a Trump. Getting it done with no BS. They love him there. They take tourist safety very seriously. Its where a lot of the money comes from. and they know it.
Who gets the island after they all die?
Anyone been ther for vacation? I need to get out of town
I was there for a honeymoon (Peurto Plata) but have since purged that memory. The resort was very nice; good food; lots of kids begging outside. The power went off for a couple of hours every day. This was in the mid-1980’s.
Yay DR!
yes. what do you want to know?
Not sure if you’re an American or some other national but there are direct Flights from half a dozen or so US cities and Air Canada serves several cities from Toronto. Plus Air France and a couple other European Airlines serve Punta Cana. No Visa required for US Citizen and Citizens of the Schenzen zone. I keep my ear on the pulse of Global Travel so I’d like to think I can provide good intel. The US State Department rating system is total BS for travel risk. I’ve been to a few countries that are listed as level 4: DO NOT TRAVEL and been fine. I’ll tell you whatever else I know.
I am not interested in Resort vacations. I prefer getting a room more on the local side of town. Of course not a ghetto or some violent dump. But something safe to walk around and visit with locals. I usually vacation in obscure places in Europe and South America the same way but as they are nearly shut down I am intrigued by DR opening up sans covid restrictions.
Happy to hear all that. We had planned on going before all the covid crap hit. Maybe some day soon.
