Jonathan Allen apologized on Wednesday for a tweet about Hitler.
The Washington Commanders defensive lineman issued his apology on Twitter, describing the earlier tweet as "dumb."
So what did Allen write? Early Wednesday, he invited his followers to "ask me anything?"
He was asked the conversation starter: "If you could have dinner with three people, dead or alive, who are you inviting?"
To which Allen responded: "My grandad, hitler and Michael Jackson."
"He’s a military genius and I love military tactics but honestly I would want to pick his brain as to why he did what he did," Allen wrote when asked to explain his answer. "I’m also assuming that the people I’ve chosen have to answer all my questions honestly."
Another tweet addressing criticism for giving Hitler "props" remained live late Wednesday.
"Not props, I probably should have used a different term but I was asked and I was giving my reason as to why I think it would be interesting to have a convo with him," Allen wrote. "He’s easily one if not the most evil persons to have ever lived but this was a hypothetical question."
Allen also responded to a follower who wrote that Allen's tweet was "unbelievably hurtful."
"I’m sorry I offended you that definitely was not my attention, I was just answering a question," Allen responded.

It’s Redskins, not commodes.
A political genius and master manipulator? Yes. In other words, a tremendous liar.
A Ricky Gervais joke. You’ve gotta be really brilliant and British to pull it off.
Hitler a “Military genius”???
Hardly.
Master of bullshit, certainly.
This guy is an assclown.
indeed--in history he has but one equal--Hitlery Clinton.
He may be a dummy but people are way too easily offended these days.
He had generals - some of whom were competent, some of whom were very intelligent, and some of whom were incompetent and/or bootlickers who told him what he wanted to hear - to advise him.
Sometimes he listened to those generals and faired well. Towards the end of the War, he did what he wanted, and generally faired badly.
Hitler was definitely not the "Gröfaz" (disparaging abbreviation of the epithet "Größter Feldherr Aller Zeiten") he was praised by the German propaganda as being.
Regards,
Ideas and aspirations are in overabundance with an amphetamines bunch. Once the reality sets in over time that those ideas weren't really such good ideas, depression and lethargy set in.
Every speed freak experiences this. Fortunately the ideas are usually limited to taking apart appliances, half painting rooms, meeting with friends for three days straight, going on road trips, and grinding your teeth. A speed freak running a country has always ended badly.
LOL. The Washington Commies screw up right out of the gate. This is going to be hilarious.
Gooooooooo Commies!
Commander was a Studebaker car. hitler wasn’t either
“I’m also assuming that the people I’ve chosen have to answer all my questions honestly.”
This guy thinks Hitler would answer anything differently than what he said in life? Why? Hitler could answer anything he was asked six ways from Sunday. He did it day in and day out.
Just like Xiden and Afghanistan!
Hitler was a military genius????
Good grief! Guess that means that, in his peanut-sized brain, Malcom X was a righteous Christian...
Pretty accurate description methinks.
Hitler wasn’t a military genius. He invaded countries that were completely unprepared. What a retarded dumbass. Open a history book instead of playing with your crotch sometime.
I know. He could have just read the book. I think Hitler explained all that.
The left today in this country bears many similarities (so far) to the Nazis. It is interesting that the schools stopped teaching about it, and now it looks like the name cannot even be mentioned.
If one was ever going to bring something back, what better strategy than to drum the memory of it out of society?
When I was a kid it was talked about all the time. Mostly from the hypothetical “If you met Hitler, what would you do to him”.
