Anyone who uses “speak to truth to power” needs to read this essay and discover what the phrase means. I’d opine that “Colette” needs to be put on suicide watch, but you can be sure she dismissed it all as white supremacist raving.

I was a girl and my nemeses were not cops but nuns. One day I was punished for wearing shabby shoes. They were the only shoes I had. Sister Anthony made me stand in the hallway for hours,

LOL. I read this and immediately guessed the author had to be 70 years old or more. Most Catholic school kids born before 1965 have a "nun" story. Our nuns never bothered with our shoes or uniform, as long as we kept ourselves relatively clean, our ties were straight, and we made some basic effort to look neat. I had to stand in the hall for 4 hours also - but I was guilty as charged, of throwing some test-tubes out the science-room window.
