In a statement to the Guardian, the Us intelligence agency says it bought a license from NSO Group for 'product testing and evaluation only' and not 'operational use'
The FBI confirmed on Wednesday that it had purchased Pegasus spyware from Israel's NSO Group, but denied ever using it during an operation.
In a statement to the Guardian, the FBI said it purchased the powerful cellphone hacking software in order to "stay abreast of emerging technologies and tradecraft." The US security agency said it bought a "limited license" to use Pegasus for "product testing and evaluation only," and said "there was no operational use (of the software) in support of any investigation."
News that the FBI had purchased the notorious spyware from NSO was first reported by The New York Times last week..

Sure....
I have bought a lot of stuff that I have never used.
Pretty sure I must have intended to use it at one time, or possibly a future time
of course they dint use it... that’s why they bought, it so’s not to use it!
If they’re using it, would they admit it? An agency that made a deliberate and concerted effort to overthrow a lawfully elected president? Can anything they say be taken at face value? Ever?
They tried Pot but they did not inhale.
I do not believe them.
Having witnessed the complex path to buy and operate just any type of software on a government ‘grid’...there had to be a plan of utilization before a single penny was spent. So, the question is....where is this plan of use? And if you bought the software just on a whim...your career in government operations might not be that long.
Of course they didn’t use it. That’s the sort of job you give to a contractor.
Look at the lawyer wording, not used in an operation. They didn’t say they didn’t use it.
Yeah, I’ve got a new car in the garage. I’ll drive it one of these days.
Nice!
Would the FIB lie?
thank you...
I did that once, I bought a Saab viggen hid it and did not tell anyone for a few months. GF was super beyond pissed cause she was female?
It was not a good car, much faster from 20-150 than almost anything, but holy torque steer i spent 6k trying to fix it, but it still sucked. my m3 was far better in every respect and much faster 0-40
That looks like a British Enfield in 303 caliber.
NICE, I have one just like it.
I believe nothing the FBI says
Too bad you had to go through that.
I was kidding about a new car in the garage.
The amazing thing is that there is absolutely nothing that we can ever do about it. We simply do not have any power, and what we think we have is about to be taken with barely a whimper.
I’m so old I can remember when sane people actually believed things the FBI said.
