A federal judge rejected a plea deal Monday afternoon that would have allowed one of the men who killed Ahmaud Arbery to avoid a federal hate crime trial.
U.S. District Judge Lisa Godbey Wood heard arguments Monday from Arbery’s family and prosecutors after the Department of Justice struck a plea deal with Arbery’s killers Gregory and Travis McMichael over the weekend.
Travis McMichael, the man who fatally shot Arbery, had his plea deal tossed out by Wood. A decision was not yet made on Gregory McMichael’s plea deal.
Arbery’s family was outraged that the plea would allow the McMichaels to serve time in federal prison instead of the Georgia state system.

This judiciary is so stacked against these men it is the opposite of justice.
The family probably have chillun's in the state prisons who can do their bidding.

I'm surprised they didn't charge every white person walking/driving down the street at the time with the same crimes.

They’ve already been found guilty of murder. Why are the Feds wasting time and our money on this. Especially using the frequently abused “hate crime” law. They should just rename it the “killed a black man” law.

I’m against crime as much as anyone, but killing Arbery with a shotgun for suspecting him of stealing things was NOT right. They could have called the cops. I sure wouldn’t want someone’s death on my hands for no good reason. Perhaps I haven’t got all the facts; it was my understanding that the thief was unarmed. As far as where he spends prison, I have no opinion.
A jury ruled, that you not allowed to track down an innocent jogger with truck then threaten him with rifles and then shoot him like a dog when he tries to defend himself against the nuts hunting him.
Sorry, these horrible people got what they deserved and should be put to death for what they did to that poor guy.
If he had been armed, I would of supported his right to shoot dead every one of these racists.
Wait. These are the guys who chased Arbery down and murdered him? Who cares if black people aren’t prosecuted as strongly at this time? So what? Does that make these evil freaks any less culpable? They should just be hanged outright.

I agree Arbery’s killers were guilty of murder. At issue here is the piling on of “hate crime” charges that would never be brought if the races were reversed.
My understanding is the guy was trespassing and he was known as a the jogger thief.
He was also on drugs which made him dangerous.

well, think of it this way; you’re walking down a street, not your own neighborhood, and you may or may not have committed some unspecified crime...then two armed men, who have no direct knowledge of your ‘crime’, overtake you in a truck and one of them confronts you with a firearm in his hands...
you say, ‘oh sh&t’, and try and grab the weapon; it goes off and you are shot, and injured severely, which injuries will cost you tens of thousands of dollars to remediate...
so, consistent with your self defense contention, you would tell the authorities that the shooter was merely defending himself against you, and you would not be seeking damages in open court so you could pay your medical bills...right?
If two cars blocked you on a street and got out with shotguns, how would you react? Being unarmed and nowhere to run, maybe youd panic and go for the gun too?
Nothing was proven if the guy was robbing homes. It was pretty well confirmed he did go into one home that was under construction. My wife and I did that for homes being built in our neighborhood to see the varying floorplans. If it is a crime to do that, no one really cares. He was unarmed and had no stolen goods on him. Possible... he was casing places to rob... possible. But there was no evidence to prove it so these guys were wrong and totally guilty for what they did.
and then stepped towards you with the shotgun leveled at you !
