Small modular nuclear reactor technology is the best solution for the following 50-100 years. Small footprint, modular design allows manufacturing in a factory, not on site.
Massive production will make these units much cheaper than traditional nuclear power plants.

Chinese are in the process of building small nuclear units that do not use water, this will enable them to use this technology in their arid western regions.
They plan to replace coal-fired power plants by 2060.
