US playing spoiler to China in Horn of Africa ---- If there is mayhem in Ethiopia, China’s Belt and Road in the Horn of Africa could be slowed or even derailed

Chinese foreign ministers have traditionally marked the new year by visiting the African continent. Wang Yi’s 2022 African tour begins with Eritrea against the backdrop of the US strategy in the Horn of Africa to gain control of the strategically vital Red Sea that connects the Indian Ocean with the Suez Canal.

Eritrea and China are close friends. China was a supporter of the Eritrean liberation movement since the 1970s. Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki, the veteran revolutionary who led the independence movement, received military training in China.

More recently, Eritrea was one of the 54 countries backing Beijing’s Hong Kong policy (against 39 voicing concern in a rival Western bloc) at the UN General Assembly in October 2020.

Last November, Eritrea signed a memorandum of understanding with China to join the Belt and Road Initiative. Neighboring Djibouti is already a major participant in the BRI. So is Sudan along the Red Sea coastline.

Central to regional cohesion in the Horn of Africa is the relationship between Ethiopia and Eritrea. It has been a conflict-ridden, troubled relationship, but China, which also has close ties with Ethiopia, is well placed to mediate reconciliation.

One common view is that Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed pulled off a stunning victory in the conflict with the US-backed Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) with the help of armed drones supplied by the United Arab Emirates, Turkey and Iran.

and more:

“...The US is going for the jugular of the Mother of post-colonial Africa. An analogy would be destabilizing India to gain control of the South Asian region.

The widespread revulsion among Africans all over the continent is palpable over the US using its TPLF proxy to destabilize Ethiopia. Their collective cry is “No more” – no more colonialism, no more sanctions, no more disinformation, no more lies by CNN, BBC, etc. The cry resonates widely among the Ethiopians, Eritreans, Sudanese, Somalis, Kenyans and friends of Ethiopia.-—”

If China can afford the welfare and healthcare for Africans in need, then we should be ladies and gentlemen and step aside and leave Africa to the Chinese.

“One in three Africans live below the global poverty line. They make up 70 percent of the global poor, and their numbers are rising.”

As of March, 2021 (10 months ago)
“How many Africans are in extreme poverty?
If the impact of the pandemic is not limited by 2021, an additional 59 million people could suffer the same fate, which would bring the total number of extremely poor Africans to 514 million people,” the UNECA warned in a statement issued late Tuesday.”

But Biden would rather play games with Russia than recognize China’s rapidly growing influence and power among third-world nations.

Oh joy! Post colonial Africa. Just where America needs to be involved. Our intervention in Somalia went so well, we should move off into the jungle areas also!

“..needs to be involved..”

Not just Africa, but the Mideast and also South America their influence and control is growing. One day we’ll wake up surrounded by China controlled countries, but we’ll still be fussing with Russia. We need to keep our eyes on the ball - China!!

I have a crazy idea, instead of wasting Afghan levels of money in Africa, South America, and the mideast, maybe we should cut off China financially and tradewise.
I’m old fashioned, I think it’s retarded to have to run around every backwards hell hole on earth to oppose someone we also subsidize.

We ought to deputize the Light-Bringer and Michelle to go over there and spread some love around.

“..subsidize..”

I understand China doesn’t subsidize. They make loans and when a country defaults, which is usual, they take payment out of raw materials, oil, port control, etc. China doesn’t play Mr. Goody Two Shoes.

So does everyone else. Except the Chinese are really giving, whereas the others are only taking.

China is the spoiler.

And China isn’t too concerned right now, guaranteed.

Not a bad piece but overstates the power and even the relevance of the occupying US authorities (i.e. Dementia Joe). It’s 2022 and Dementia is already firmly a lame duck whether the majority of Rats want to accept reality or not (and we know Rats aren’t too good in dealing with reality).

I think it’s more the clumsiness and stupidity of another commie state that, like all commie states, has trouble doing anything peacefully.

I don’t believe the US government ever “loans” money to all these third world countries. We just give millions away with no conditions. That’s much different from the Chinese. They call in their loans and reap the rewards.

There are different schemes. The Europeans are largely buying the African governments for mineral rights and then fund the gangs to force people into slave labor to exploit the rights. The Chinese approach is preferable for the people.
