‘Total repression’: Russia orders top rights group shut, capping year of crackdowns

Russia’s Supreme Court ordered the country’s best-known human rights group on Tuesday to be liquidated for breaking a law requiring groups to register as foreign agents, capping a year of crackdowns on Kremlin critics unseen since the Soviet days.

The shuttering of the group Memorial closes a year in which the top Kremlin critic was jailed, his political movement banned and many of his allies forced to flee. Moscow says it is simply enforcing laws to thwart extremism and shield the country from foreign influence.

“This is a bad signal showing that our society and our country are moving in the wrong direction,” the TASS news agency quoted Memorial Board Chairman Jan Raczynski as saying.

I honestly feel bad for the Russian people.

Putin is a menace to his own people and he guarantees they won’t show economic progress. After the Soviet fall, putting a KGB henchman in power will prevent Russia from prosperity and freedom.

Yes, but as long as that geriatric commie is anti-homo, some people around here will always love him.

I take it this so-called “Rights Group” is another Soros front?

Short answer: Yes.

However there is a long history to get there.

Historical synopsis:

Immediately after the fall of the Soviet Union NGO's and "Charitable Organizations" were formed to catalog and identify Soviet repression and Human Rights Crimes.

Of course, they were all Liberal Socialist.

Much like American NGO's (and for the same reasons, exported from America), they slowly moved farther and farther Left.

Soon, the focus of these organizations was the failure of Russia to elevate Homosexuals, Deviants, Pornographers, Minorities, Muslims and Christians other than Orthodox, to positions of Special Protection and Influence.

Oh, The Repression, It's So Evil!

Said NGO's, in conspiracy with Western Media, Western Governments, and Soros type Western NGO's, began pushing Modern Russia for the same Politically Correct Woke crapola that has been installed in America and Western Europe.

Russia outlawed 'em.

The Russian Supreme Court made it stick.

Russian NGO's now get Whine with their Cheese.

Liberals never forgave Russia for abandoning Communism.

Now Putin is no saint, not ever close. But frankly this is what Russians are used to, be it the Tsars, or the Bolsheviks.

Absolutely. No leader, Putin or Trump, should allow foreign-funded operations in their country.

The problem with Memorial is that its chief functionary was caught with child porn on his laptop.
Not some random porn, but of his own adopted 11-year-old daughter. According to her testimony, the abuse wasn’t limited to porn.
The US Embassy declaring him the victim of the regime and demanding release didn’t do itself a favor in terms of PR.

You put it better than I did, Bob, and it was concise.

And just exactly who interfered in the other's election?

And of course, since this was under Clinton, Time cheered it.

Heck, I thought the US only interfered with Bibi's election in Israel, or was it Assad's election in Syria, or Qaddafi's in Libya, or was it Bosnia, or Serbia, or Yugoslavia, or Kosovo, or Crimea, or Ukraine, or Georgia, ... gee, where was I?

I don’t see a lot of difference with Putin doing that and Biden’s administration over US Citizens.
