The Atlantic's COVID Article That Drove Libs Insane and Caused Mass Cancelations

The Atlantic published an op-ed about COVID in America from one person’s perspective, and it sent liberal America into a tailspin. It was a meltdown that led to scores of people canceling subscriptions, albeit those declarations were made by liberals on Twitter. Matthew Walther of The American Conservative decided to give his insight on COVID in America. He was blunt and straightforward: except for the cities and the urban-based professional elites—no one cares about the virus anymore. Most Americans are getting on with their lives. I would say that’s true. I live in deep-blue Northern Virginia. There are no mask mandates. The gyms are open. The bars are open. The restaurants are open. The Old Dominion, along with other states, has been free of COVID protocols…for months. Liberals here don’t go nuts when I walk into the grocery store without a mask on—but apparently, this piece really triggered the snowflakes (via The Atlantic):

Meanwhile in the CP state of NevaDUH we still have mask mandates in place in most places. Some places simply ignore, others with licensing concerns enforce them. And, it sure doesn't appear that gov sissypants is leaning to lift them anytime soon. Guess we were wrong about the "new math". Fifteen weeks=2 years+/-.......

My eye doctor’s office, which has surgery units and lots of doctors, is unbearably strict on the masks. They actually have an amazingly rude woman designated as the mask Nazy. When my doctor came into the room she asked if she could remove her mask. I whipped mine off and said yes.

She was obviously at the end of her rope on the subject. She said, “I hate this. If I’m wearing it, I’m a Democrat. If I don’t wear it ‘they’ ‘accuse me’ of being a Republican.”

The quoted words were emphasized by the doctor. My take is that the mask has become a way for Democrats to identify each other. They are only comfortable around other Democrats, so they insist we all pretend to be Democrats. It’s akin to the media faking polls that show higher approval then reality.

Only six states in the nation have mask mandates. Unfortunately for me, I live in one of those...Illinois.

So 44 states say “it’s over”. I tend to agree.

Many people in my area still wear masks but its totally optional. Even HD with a mask required sign does not challenge me when I come without one.

I think you're right. On the flip side, I'm starting to consider people who wear the mask the same way I consider someone who wears a pot-leaf hat or has bright purple hair. It's a way of identifying someone who is potentially mentally ill.

Great insight. I think you're onto something.

Not a correction for you. I am just pointing out the original lie that was used on reasonable people to begin the open disregard of the Constitution.
Covid is our Reichstag incident.

I’ve felt that way for a while. Mask-wearers are definitely in the minority where I live and there is no mandate. Most of us are free-breathers.

When I do see a mask-wearer, I often see angry-looking eyes above the mask. And perpetual anger seems to be a Democrat trademark.

“My take is that the mask has become a way for Democrats to identify each other.”

Agree. The other thing that is so weird is that people now “accuse” others of being Republicans. Since when did that get to be an accusation?

The Republican Party is a legitimate and long-standing American political party, and hardly some revolutionary and dangerous group that just popped up. It’s also weak and ineffective, so it’s not much of a threat.

But even a hint of disagreement is too much for the Dems, and I genuinely think they want to criminalize opposition parties.

Thanks for your interesting account!

“My eye doctor’s office, which has surgery units and lots of doctors, is unbearably strict on the masks.”

My eye surgeon is exactly the opposite; he prefers that you don’t wear masks. Has seen too many eye issues as a result of crud-encrusted masks pushing filth up into eyes.

I did not realize until you put it into words that I had adopted the same view. Mask wearing is an outward sign of some inward problem or mental illness. And, as another poster put it, they seem perpetually angry. I see it the same way I see the diamond pattern on a snake. Definitely nature’s way of staying, keep your distance.

The pandemic, if it was really ever was, has been over for a while, it’s all politics now. The claims this is a “pandemic of the unvaccinated” is a political lie. The fear level is party aligned because the left listens to all the fear porn in the media - hence the division of mask wearing.

I like to point out - the STARTING POINT of survival is that most people have a 99.9+% chance of survival via their own God given natural immune system, of which will give you SUPERIOR immunity moving forward. If the “vaccine” moves this a little, say 99.999% survival, ok but how can anyone claim it is the savior? Especially as the shot also kills people - the latest that 1 life is lost due to the jab for every 2 people that live. That is not a good deal. Younger people should NOT get the jab. Period.

We should not have done any of the government directed policies, they’re 100% upside down - everyone under 50 should have just continued as normal, got the virus, and built herd immunity - from day one!

Anyway, look at sporting events, conferences, etc., they’re PACKED - most people realize this is over and are just living their lives now. The only time you really think about it is when you listen to the media or politicians.

Unfortunately it is true though...when I see a mask “I see a liberal”.
