Nigerian leader ‘distressed’ after 23 travelers slain on bus

At least 23 travelers have been killed in northwest Nigeria in an attack by the same armed groups blamed for killing thousands this year in Africa’s most populous country.

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari said he is “very distressed” over the attack that occurred Monday.

I think that reason that the President of Nigeria hasn't been able to crush the Islamist extremists in his country, is that he fears if he strengthened his Military enough where they could adequately do that, his Military would be so strong, that they just might stage a coup against his Govt., of which, many people think is corrupt.

That's my take on Nigeria, the most populous country in Africa.

Well Buhari himself fought in the Nigerian civil war and led a coup to overthrow President Shehu Shagari back in 1983. I happened to be in Lagos on the day of that coup.
So it's not like he doesn't know anything about military coups or how to prevent them.

Is Buhari upset that tourists won’t go to Nigeria when they hear about this atrocity?

Myself, I decided I will never visit Nigeria because of all the emails I got telling me about relatives who died there in auto or plane crashes, and left unclaimed money behind. That country is too dangerous for my family!

I guess a lot of “leaders” nowadays just have to say words like “distressed,outraged”and so on instead of acting.

Why should he worry about that? He should just seduce the civil service and military until they are as corrupt as he is and then he can use them however he likes. They’ll even resist a change in civil leadership until they can re-install him.

Buhari is himself a Muslim and a Fulani. Maybe he doesn’t mind if Fulani herdsman terrorists kill and displace Christian farmers. What if his base doesn’t support him?
