Sen. Bob Dole’s casket will lie in state in the US Capitol on Thursday as congressional leaders honor the former Republican presidential candidate and World War II veteran who served in Congress for 36 years.
Dole will then have a state funeral on Friday at the Washington National Cathedral, a senior congressional source told The Post on Monday.
Dole passed away Sunday at the age of 98.
On Saturday, his body will be transported to his home state of Kansas. Dole served four terms in the House and more than four terms in the Senate.
He won the Republican nomination in 1996, but was defeated when President Bill Clinton won a second term. He was also 1976 GOP vice presidential candidate on the losing ticket with President Gerald Ford.

I hope any security in the area of the casket will remain alert. I would not put it past some Lib to try and disrupt, damage or trash up the scene. Some kind of disrespectful acting out that they could film and brag about later. Why? Because Bob Dole was a Republican. Many Dems need no more reason than that.
Given his service and sacrifice in ww2, years in Congress, and what he did for his fellow ww2 vets, this seems totally appropriate. I did not agree with his politics entirely, but as a son of a ww2 and Korean war vet, I’m ok with these honors.

Why? These guys think they are so important because they are or were senators. Like they did us a favor or something. They are the ones who owe us a debt of gratitude for allowing them to serve.
I honor Bob dole for his military service. Not for being the tax collector for the welfare state.
Nothing against Dole, per se.
But, why lie in state?
I thought that was a pretty rare occurrence.
But then, he gets the flag down AGAIN. For several days.
I’m really sick of the constant flag-dropping for every damn person and incident It’s been happening at a frightening and depressing pace since 9/11. It has to stop. Used to be only “heads of state” upon death were entitled to flag-lowering.
Yes, this really sticks up my craw. Our flag is constantly being “dipped” over stupid things. We look like a bunch of crying wimps.
Hey was the entitled poster child for: “because it’s my turn” and now were facing the utter abomination desolation of our statist religion.
Another statist lying in state just like he did in life. Maybe they’ll raise the flag to the top for every third 4th of July and for Buttagig’s inauguration.

We met the Senator and Liddy a few times in CA in 1996. Once at the convention in San Diego.
