Switzerland has just legalized a new way to die by assisted suicide. The country’s medical review board has just given authorization for use of the Sarco Suicide Pod, which is a 3-D-printed portable coffin-like capsule with windows that can be transported to a tranquil place for a person’s final moments of life.
Conventional assisted-suicide methods have generally involved a chemical substance. Inventor Philip Nitschke of Exit International told the website SwissInfo.ch that his “death pod” offers a different approach. “We want to remove any kind of psychiatric review from the process and allow the individual to control the method themselves,” he said. “Our aim is to develop an artificial-intelligence screening system to establish the person’s mental capacity. Naturally there is a lot of skepticism, especially on the part of psychiatrists.”
The pod can be activated from inside and can give the person intending to die various options for where they want to be for their final moments. “The machine can be towed anywhere for the death,” he said. “It can be in an idyllic outdoor setting or in the premises of an assisted-suicide organization, for example.”
To qualify to use the pod, the person who wants to die must answer an online survey that is meant to prove whether they are making the decision of their own accord. If they pass, they will be told the location of the pod and given an access code.
Once inside, the person intending to end their life will have to answer pre-recorded questions and press a button that will start the process of flooding the interior with nitrogen, which will quickly reduce the oxygen level inside from 21 percent to 1 percent. “The person will get into the capsule and lie down,” he said, adding, “It’s very comfortable.”

What would a libertarian say?
Dual-purposed as quarantine for the unvaxed.
I am trying to get a visual, a mind picture of what they’re discussing, but my screen remains a blank. I went to Yahoo and they have nothing but a weed garden of clickbaits.
Maybe this is nothing but a theory being proposed for now.
politics aside (because lefty hypocrisy is never shocking anymore), why would hypoxia be “comfortable”?
The Swiss have lost their moral compass. They have embraced the culture of death.
The victims of these criminals were unavailable for comment.
That feeling of suffocation you feel when you’re not getting fresh air, comes from CO2 buildup in your blood. Your body can sense excess CO2, but is not designed to detect lack of oxygen.
If you breath in pure nitrogen, you will fade out and die without discomfort.
A suicide group that puts out a “how to” suggested nitrogen from balloon blowing tanks. I forget the specifics. But it didn’t imply that it was a horrible method. Still remember trying to keep a quiet face during the conversation with my friend. Who, luckily, hasn’t chosen yet to go that route. Hoping she never does.
Oh, there it is. Thanks.
Kind of small and narrow, but I guess it’s not necessarily built for comfort.
Kind of ironic that one of the inventors for this is named Phillip Nitschke.
A German philosopher with a slightly different spelling was named Friedrich Nietzsche.
One of Nietzsche’s sayings was
“That which does not kill us, makes us stronger!”
Yeah, NASA has lost a couple of people who entered rocket fuel tanks which had (unbeknownst to them) been purged with nitrogen. They don’t even realize they’re in trouble, they just fall asleep and don’t wake up.
Veterinaries use a twilight sleep, then a overdose of IV Calcium. No Pain, so why not the same for those on Death Rows?
“That which does not kill us, makes us stronger!”
I believed this as a young man, but now that I’m old....
I think that which does not kill us, most of the time hurts really bad.
I think that people contemplating assisted suicide should be flown to the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Zone in China.
My health is in decline and my faith has allowed me to no longer be fearful of death. Yet I have no desire to hasten the end.
Those people who commit homemade suicide by helium or nitrogen avoid this by having a tight-fitting mask, which, at a high enough gas volume, causes exhaled CO2 to be blown out of the mask so the suicide can't inhale any CO2 he/she just exhaled.
judges and governors love last minute reprieves, so the execution has to be healthy, healthy, healthy, dead. No judge wants to be told that the executee is still alive but there is no way to stop the execution or even if you could stop it he would be permanently brain damaged from the barbiturate overdose. Thus the method has to be heart attack inducing rather than slowly drifting off to sleep and dead a few minutes later.
For the instant death, the guillotine was probably the best with just a second or two between pulling the lever and catching the head in a basket.
My guess is a windowed box that allows you to increase the nitrogen atmosphere content. Climb in, lock it, turn the knobs on the inside. Poof. Done. Nice way to die actually. Way too humane for prison execution. Chipper shredder feet first slowly is what most deserve.
Speaking of humane death row. Just offer most unlimited heroin mixed with fentanyl and 90% will OD in 6 months or less.
