Among the more than a dozen smash-and-grab robberies in the Bay Area in recent weeks, cannabis facilities may have been the hardest hit.

In San Francisco, at least four cannabis businesses have been robbed in the last two weeks, according to news reports. At least 20 have been hit in Oakland, where most of the Bay Area’s cannabis cultivation, manufacturing and distribution facilities are located.

“It’s proving to be unbearable for cannabis operators,” said Amber Senter at an Oakland press conference held by cannabis business owners on Monday. Senter owns multiple cannabis business licenses in San Francisco and Oakland, and is also executive director of the industry group Supernova Women. “We need more protection, and we need more funds and resources to improve security, so we can protect ourselves.”

Cops have watched their police stations burn down, stood and watched rioters and arsonist attack the innocent, so don’t expect on the cops to protect you. But you will get a report.

A long time friend lives outside of Willits, CA, which back in the ‘80’s was a major pot growing area. Many of the growers took to ‘protection’ methods that included trip wires and booby traps.

might need to bring those back.

My work in social equity.
The War on Drugs is a failed war which has destroyed Black and Brown communities. We have had our possessions, homes, jobs, children, and in some cases our lives taken from us as a result. Social equity programs were created with the intent to address some of the harms caused by the failed War on Drugs by giving the affected communities a chance to participate in the legal cannabis market. While we have a long way to go in social equity programs, it is a start in the right direction.

Looks like the war on drugs is not over.

I am familiar with what you are saying but this is new...classic dope dealers robbing legal dope dealers. Do you think ANYONE will stick up for the legal dealers? There are no cops! That and if the legal dealers try to protect their stash, they’ll get thrown in the clink! Wait till the word on the street gets around (that happened yesterday at the latest!)

There are some common business deductions MJ businesses don’t get because it is still illegal under federal law. Don’t know where a theft deduction fits in.

In Oakland, you can get US Military Special Operator level protection from Oakland Police, if you give 55% of your company to a Retired Oakland cop.
