I am 65. I vividly remember Gore vs bush. I was in Tallahassee where believe it or not is where someone was holding a sign. It said freerepublic.com. and the rest is history.

My husband and I were living in Boston at the time and went to protest Al Gore in Back Bay. We met a ton of people with Sore Loserman signs. They were all Freepers.
And as you say, the rest is history.

I'll bet you also know that Gore's media paid for a recount and discovered the Bush margin was more than 20,000 votes statewide, which is logical when you consider that was close to the statewide total by machine counts and then Gore's people cherry-picked precincts to hand recount to narrow the total to 600 votes or so.
We all know their intention was not to count every vote but to cheerypick votes to "harvest" and quit as soon as they got ahead. That is exactly why SCOTUS shut it down; because some votes were being treated as more relavant than others.
