US special operators have played an instrumental role in the fight against terrorists and insurgent groups over the past 20 years.
Now, as the Pentagon focuses on preparing for a conflict a near-peer or peer military, like China and Russia, the special-operations community is looking for ways to remain relevant in a completely different type of war.
Army special-operations units are particularly concerned, as they make up most of the US Special Operations Command's (SOCOM) numbers.

Well good. Should have done this years ago. But all the energy was being wasted in the hopelessly unsalvageable middle east. Russian troops would be a force to reckon with. Chinese snowflakes, not so much.
Traditionally artillery is used to compensate for having weak ground forces. This is why the Chinese are building so many missiles. They know their soldiers are pathetic. They got their @$$es handed to them by India on the border. Poor whiners need special support activities when forced to spend a week in the field. American and Russian troops get told to suck it up. Though with the woke rot Americans will be more like Chinese in a few years.

Taiwan is of strategic interest as somehow their chip manufacturers could not foresee a CCP invasion and failed to set up manufacturing facilities on other continents.

Honestly, I believe this Woke PC crap and denial of Constitutional Rights to a Soldiers Right to his/her own body, will reduce the capability of the Military to a critical inability to prevail.
Hawaiian winters are great practice for Russian winters.
