It’s not the self-preferencing that’s the real issue, it’s that they claim to be unbiased even when they do it.

“The bills’ sponsors allege that America’s largest technology companies, such as Amazon and Google, are giving preferential treatment to their own products and services to the detriment of other businesses. While that may be true, it’s of no consequence to antitrust law. In fact, in the context of digital platforms and marketplaces, “self-preferencing” is actually beneficial for consumers and is, as a result, lawful under the prevailing consumer welfare standard.”

If it is of no consequence to antitrust law, then antitrust law is weak and out of step with modern technological change and the market dominance of so few entities in certain technology sectors. In the long term it is not price alone that benefits consumers, but very competitive markets as well. When the later is stifled by near de facto monopoly interests, those interests, not competitive markets are and will be determining prices long term.
