After learning George Zimmerman was scheduled to speak at The Riverside Hotel this weekend as part of a multiday conference, the hotel canceled the event.
Zimmerman was listed as featured speaker at the “Lethal Force Gun Laws 2021 Tactics & Strategies Conference.” It was scheduled to take place Friday through Monday.
In 2012, Zimmerman fatally shot Trayvon Martin, an unarmed Black teenager, and was later found not guilty of second-degree murder and manslaughter after claiming self-defense. The shooting in Florida sparked a national conversation on racial profiling and so-called Stand Your Ground laws.
“We recognize the immense pain that George Zimmerman has inflicted on many of our guests, team-members and community,” the Garden City hotel’s ownership group said in a statement. “With their respect and safety as our priority, we have canceled the event. We are unequivocally opposed to providing George Zimmerman a platform and he is not welcome at The Riverside Hotel.”

Yes, there should most definitely be a contractual obligation. An event specifically on a 2nd Amendment issue, in particular on stand-your-ground laws, should’ve been obvious to the hotel well in advance that it would be controversial, regardless of who the speakers are. I hope they get sued & lose the hotel. They should have Zimmerman come anyway & hold a sidewalk protest out in front.
The Riverside Hotel should be sued if they did not adequately compensate The folks who scheduled the convention. Triple punitive damages would be necessary. Make them pay for bad behaviour.
This is my sole take-away!
Regards,
Oh yeah...Boise’s been infiltrated
> It is not the right of a business to cancel a contract... <
Right you are. The hotel probably cancelled the contract solely on a whim (as you noted). The conference sponsors should certainly sue the hotel.
But I wonder if hidden deep in the contract there is some sort of morality clause. The hotel might try to use that as an excuse. Sue ‘em anyway and let an Idaho jury sort it out.
Is it true that the hotel is infested with roaches and mold?
Yes, last I heard
“I assume they’re fearful of BLM and the media”
Until those are met with overwhelming force, the narrative will continue.
I agree. They’re terrified of leftist terrorists.
I live about a mile from this hotel, I am a gun owner and a staunch conservative. I also was strongly supportive of Zimmerman’s acquittal.
That said, I think the Riverside was right in canceling for the following reasons:
1. Zimmerman, although I thought was being prosecuted for political reasons, has nothing to add to the “Lethal Force Gun Laws 2021 Tactics & Strategies Conference”.
2. An acquittal on this charge, although I agreed with it, does not mean that the person is innocent. And we don’t need that person being the “gold standard” on the subject of gun laws and strategies.
3. Him as speaker at this event I believe is divisive. He has name recognition and that’s it. It may be great to draw a crowd, but drawing a crowd should not be the focus of this forum.
4. This would have brought a lot of press coverage to Boise, and knowing the press, it would have (all) not been positive.
+1
That sucks. I thought Idaho was among the final holdouts of reason.
It is insane a hotel would cancel an event where a victim of a violent attack describes how he survived.
They bought Woke hook, line, and sinker. And whoever wrote the article bought most of it too. They'd rather be woke than face the truth.
So, if you're going to Boise, find another hotel.
I am no fan of George Zimmerman. But the conference organizers have the right to bring on any speaker they wish: a divisive speaker, a stupid speaker, an ax murderer, whatever.
The only exception to that would be if the contract gave the hotel specific cancelling powers.
Did the guests, tm's and the community try to sucker punch and pound George's head on concrete, forcing him to defend himself? If not, what is this idiot saying. That he's upset George survived. I don't see how this country survives such thinking.

The heckler’s veto is alive and well.
I’m sure this establishment has a long history of not welcoming people who were falsely accused of a crime.
Boise, and to a lesser extent, Coeur d’Alene are infested with shitlib trash. Getting worse all the time.
