Saskatoon police and conservation officers remove a moose from inside Sylvia Fedoruk School in Evergreen after it crashed through a window. The moose was tranquilized and is being relocated. No students or staff were injured.
A moose crashed through a window at Sylvia Fedoruk School in Saskatoon’s Evergreen neighbourhood Thursday morning.
Just before 9 a.m., the female moose broke through the window of the school’s community room, located between Sylvia Fedoruk and St. Nicholas Catholic School, Saskatoon Public Schools said in a release.
Students and staff involved in a before-school program operated by an external provider were in the room at the time and were evacuated as 911 was called, the release said. According to a staff member at the scene Thursday morning, there were no injuries.
The moose was injured and remained in the community room while students and staff were kept away from the area.
Thanks to a joint effort between conservation officers and city police, the moose was tranquilized, removed from the building and transported outside the city for a safe release.

There’s a province up in Canada that’s right next door to ours.
It’s called Saskatchewan.
And, uh, in that province there’s a small town, uh, where nothing much ever happens, called Saskatoon.
That Moose was typically politely Canadian. Didn’t bite or hurt anyone. :)
Luckily it wasn’t an Alaskan Goliath... I’ve seen both Maine and Alaskan Moose both are (Alces alces), but the Alaskan Alces alces (Moose) seemed much larger, but perhaps not.
Whitetail is a little gamey. Moose? Not so much.

When I was five, my cousin and I who was also five were staying with my grandparents at a campground in Yellowstone next to a slow moving stream that emptied into a big lake. We had an aluminum canoe with us and my grandfather wanted to use it to go fishing. On previous visits when they had stayed at the same spot in the same campground he had simply paddled the canoe down the stream and then back to the campground after he was done fishing.
But inexplicably that year there were signs warning not to use boats in the stream. My grandfather was incensed about this new and stupid regulation. My cousin and I were both good swimmers for our age and also knew how to paddle the canoe. So my grandfather thought that if my cousin and I paddled the canoe down the stream that even if we were caught that there would be no repercussions. So off we went and he started walking down to the lake to meet us.
On the way to the lake there was a big herd of moose standing in the middle of the stream where it widened and entered the lake. There was a large group of tourists watching the moose herd from the road and taking pictures along with a couple of rangers making sure that no one got too close.
My cousin and I paddled right through the middle of the herd and none of the moose or their young offspring seemed to mind. We were both used to being in the company of cows and horses so it didn’t seem like any big deal to us. When we got to the spot where we were suppose to meet my grandfather he had some rangers with him and they did not appear too happy. We had already rehearsed this scenario with him and knew what the story was suppose to be if we got caught. He had told the rangers that we had taken the canoe without his permission... we went along with this and they let us all go with a warning.
So at an early age my cousin and I were taught by my beloved grandfather to lie to the authorities in certain situations. It was an often told and somewhat controversial story in my family for years.
