Something I’ve said before but it’s worth repeating. If the purpose of the fake white supremacists was to make a point, they would have told the reporter “We’re here to prove Younkin’s supporters are Nazis” instead of saying “We’re all in for Glen”. And they would have immediately had a press release ready to go instead of waiting for many hours.
This was a hoax. The only reason why the Lincoln Project is claiming credit is because other people debunked the hoax. Until then they were the ones promoting the hoax as real. And even so, the Lincoln Project is allowing the media to blame the Republicans (i.e. the Lincoln Project) even though every person in the photo was a Democrat operative.
