Years ago there was a fire at a Rode island nightclub that killed about 100 people. When the dust had settled it was learned that the owners of the club had no insurance...and no assets. It was also learned that the band that was playing when it started (their stage fireworks caused the fire) had no insurance...and no assets.

Upon learning this the lawyer for the family of one of the victims announced that he was gonna sue Shell Oil (ya,*that* Shell Oil) because they were one of the sponsors of the band's tour.

Looking at that case...and this one...and others...it blows my mind to know that lawyers haven't a clue as to why they're as hated as they are.

They also sued the local TV station reporting the news that night who were there when the fire started and they got millions.
