Opinion: Biden's problem is bigger than two unruly senators
CNN. via MSN ^ | Oct. 22, 2021 | Julian Zelizer

Democratic Senators Kyrsten Sinema and Joe Manchin are dominating Capitol Hill. Given the 50-50 split in the Senate, Democrats can't afford to lose a single vote on the budget reconciliation bill -- and Sinema and Manchin are using that leverage to force huge concessions from the Biden administration.

Good article for someone who's interested in the CNN view of the present situation and how it currently stands.

Bidens problems top all others at present!

They have not counted the cost on any of their mandates..

The supply chain
Stopping the oil
Being a mumbling lying senile

How does that win?

While the fate of the budget reconciliation bill rests on Sinema and Manchin, Democrats are not just reckoning with two unruly senators -- they are confronting the problem of the Senate itself, which gives small states disproportionate power over key issues.

Here we see the issue with our educational system. The Senate is supposed to represent the states; both large, small and medium. This is why there are two from each state and were originally appointed by the governor...to represent the interest of the state. The congress was to represent the people.

IF the Senate wasn't constructed this way then we'd never hear about the concerns of the people in WV, RI, VT, or any of the other "small" states.

We'd be ruled by about five states.

I know that's what dims want....but it isn't what the Founding Fathers wanted. Hence the Constitution.

Manchin is most definitely using these antics as a negotiation tactic. Manchin has no principles and truth is an alien concept to the boy.

Biden’s problem is not political, it is medical, as his dementia is progressive and there is nothing to stop it.

Re “senators appointed by governors.” No, it didn’t work like that.

Senators of the United States Congress were originally chosen by state legislatures. Citizens would vote for their state legislators, and those legislators would vote a man into the U.S. Senate.

At the beginning of the 20th century, though, many states had begun to use the popular vote to elect U.S. Senators. But it wasn’t a direct election; the election appeared on ballots as a referendum, and the results of that referendum were then confirmed by the state legislature.

Wonder how many Democratic Senators are privately thanking Sinema and Manchin. The Left finances and controls the Democrats. If anyone demonstrates any modicum of rationality in that vile collection of Marxist globalists, they will be cancelled forever.
This generation of Americans may not want to face reality and make the necessary painful sacrifices and do the unpleasant tasks. However if they don’t root out and destroy the power and influence of these Marxist globalists, they will not only lose their freedom and liberty but their nation. It is yet to be seen if today’s Americans are capable of doing what is necessary.

"Unruly" - yeah, how dare those disobedient senators do what's best for their states' citizens instead of following the dictates of the senile fool occupying the White House?

In a nutshell, it’s the demonstrable difference between a Republic and a Democracy of which this author is clueless.

It’s poorly written. Not surprising, coming from CNN.

This is just another commie who hates our system. Wants urban areas to call all the shots and subjugate everyone else. There’s a good reason the Founding Fathers set things up the way they did.

For many years, the left (Democrats) have been talking about "our democracy," never mentioning our republic. They want their constituents (taxpayer money dependent whether from paychecks, contracts, welfare, pensions, etc) to believe that we are a pure democracy.

We can see from the House of Representatives that there is no protection for the minority, even if it is 49%, in a pure democracy.

Pure democracy is two wolves and one chicken voting on what to have for lunch.

Our Republic ended when ALL of our elected and appointed swore in the ineligible Kenyan from Indonesia abrogating the Constitution.

It was a fatal mistake.

We really need to repeal the 17th amendment.

States lost a lot of federal power with the passage of that amendment.

The last state power, the electoral college, is now under attack.

Mob rule is the goal of the left and it began with the 17th amendment.

The author misses the point completely. The Senate filibuster isn’t there to give the minority party power. It’s there so that the party in power can refuse to pass bills that its grassroots supporters want but the big financial donors oppose.

Manchin and Sinema are simply playing the role of the “obstructionists” who are standing in the way of a bloated budget and tax bill that Democrat constituents want, but Chuck Schumer’s Wall Street backers oppose. So Schumer tells his Wall Street backers that he’s going to publicly push hard to get the stupid bill passed, but they don’t have to worry because he has a guy named Manchin — from a state Biden lost by almost 40 points — who is willing to be the “bad guy” among Democrats and block it.
