China's take-over in America's back yard: How Beijing has spent $140BILLION on ports, roads, and power plants in Latin America and the Caribbean as Cuba signs a new energy deal while US influence fades
UK Daily Mail ^ | 10/19/2021 | Chris Pleasance

On the face of it, America has little to fear from China's new deal to upgrade Cuba's power grid. The countries are already firm allies via their Communist leaders, Havana is under a diplomatic and economic embargo from Washington, and all efforts to mend ties between the two ended when Obama left office.

But scratch the surface and what emerges is a picture of Chinese economic dominance in America's backyard that would be enough give any president sleepless nights.

In fact, the deal with Cuba - signed this week as part of China's trillion-dollar Belt and Road Initiative - is just the latest in a long line of loans, trade deals, construction projects and other investments in Latin American and the Caribbean that has seen Beijing flex its growing economic muscle while America's strength wanes.

Since 2005, China's three largest state investment banks have loaned some $140billion to countries in Latin American to pay for everything from nuclear power stations to dams, roads to railways, ports and phone networks.

Billions more - nobody knows quite how many - have been lent via contracts with commercial banks, private finance initiatives and other deals which are opaque and hard to track, though researchers have found they sometimes dwarf deals done on-the-books.

Meanwhile Chinese trade with Latin America has shot up more than 25 times, rising from $12billion in 2000 to $315billion in 2020 as almost half of the countries in the region saw their largest trading partner flip from being the US to China - including three of the four largest economies, in Brazil, Argentina and Colombia.

The Chinese will learn what we learned. Eventually those banana republics nationalize and steal all that infrastructure. What’s China gonna do? Send their rickety Navy all the way to South America?

Here ya go billyboy15, the china you said a few days ago we do not have to worry about because their military was all show and no go and their economy is going to implode.

I have been hearing that same nonsense for 20 years that China was going to implode. They only get more powerful every year.

“What’s China gonna do? Send their rickety Navy all the way to South America?”

Unlike the West they will go in there and kick ass and won’t be afraid of taking out the locals to keep theirs.

China has converted cargo ships to carry missiles.

These ships will be positioned around the US.

Likely in our own ports as if they are unloading cargo.

My expectation anyway.

As Europe commits suicide by allowing or enabling the Islamic Invasion and Occupation

and as USA and Canada are being sold out, too

Communist China expands its power through Asia, Africa, and yes Central and South America

not to mention the millions of USA homes and other real estate properties they’ve been buying up

it is time to learn Mandarin, folks

You haven’t heard it from me my friend and I never said their military was all show so stop putting words in my mouth. What I said was they are anywhere from 15-20 yrs behind us technologically.

When we release info on a new weapons system you can bet it is already obsolete (not unusable) and there is something already better in the works. The Chinese (and the Russians in the past) couldn’t wait to announce any advance in technology to the world whether it was true and proven or not.

The only people crazed enough to launch a nuke against us are the muzzies because they think paradise awaits them as martyrs. The Chinese don’t want to die and they would...by the 10’s of millions (which may not really matter to them) but their entire infrastructure would be destroyed by an attack they have no way of stopping.

I’m so sick of the defeatism whenever China is discussed. Somehow they are going to pacify Afghanistan. And they are going to completely control Africa and South America. Apparently they are going to do all with military force by threatening everyone with missiles. Somehow Red China has been ordained with invincibility and every nation is going to truckle to the Red China. Yada yada yada.

They said the same thing about the Soviets. Where are the Soviets now?

Years ago when I was doing an NMCI deployment in Norfolk, VA, we were talking about the Chinese one time and one Navy person said “you want my advice, learn Mandarin, for as young as you are you will need it someday, now”.

Thanks free traitors. China used 140 billion of our consumer dollars to build a presence in our own back yard, and we saved $.10 on communist made paint brushes.
