If truly free markets existed, the price would rise, coal production would increase and shippers would compete to deliver coal to Chinese and Indian ports to collect hard currency and profit. Government regulations have prevented the process from working. Suspect the power companies are forced to charge a low set rate for electricity and don’t have the money to pay for coal.
I find it hard to worry about people that require heat
that purposely eliminate the means to produce it.
be it wood, coal, or whatever.
Why use filthy coal when you can get all the electricity you need at any time, right out of the wall?

Maybe this explains why China is being so bad, so Santa will deliver coal to them in every Chinese stocking.
Why can’t they just buy from Indonesia? Bill Clinton shut down Utah coal mining to protect his Indonesian donors. They should be very happy now.
