I only know Rikers Island from the 1970s TV show “Barney Miller.”
Suspects held longer than a couple of hourse were sent to Rikers Island, and the nutcases were sent to Belleview Hospital.
Just like prisons in Central and South America.
The problem cannot be solved with current management, they must all either be fired or moved to non-prison positions and a new team brought in. All significant issues with large organizations start with managment and until that is replaced nothing will improve.

But the supporters of idiots like De Blasio, Lightfoot, Newsom, Pritzker, etc. never get it. Perhaps the “Woke” will wake up? Naw.

Art imitates life...one of my favorite video games is Tom Clancy’s “The Division.” In it, a bio-engineered plague originates in Manhattan and sweeps the country just before Christmas, causing mass death and the collapse of authority. One of the major antagonist groups you’ll face as the player? “The Rikers.” Former Rikers Island inmates who banded together under a charismatic leader, took over the prison, and mass-escaped to raise hell in Manhattan.

Hopefully, this is true and it goes very badly, as New York deserves this Bigly.
Inmates running the asylum, just like a miniature Washington, DC.
And nobody really gives a rats rear end about it...
Escape from New York is sounding more like a plan then a movie....
Inmates are in control of the entire state.
The only solution to this problem that I can see would be to send Cuomo and Deblasio into the prison to negotiate with the inmates. They would have to go in alone of course as a show of good faith. This shouldn’t be a problem though, as Cuomo is a tough guy. He could even take his tough guy brother Chrissy with him for physical support. Deblasio on the other hand is not a tough guy, but since he’s married to a black woman all the black inmates would like him and probably do whatever he suggested.
The inmates are in charge of the White House too
