Russia's former Imperial capital, St Petersburg, hosts the country's first royal wedding since the 1917 revolution as Grand Duke George Romanov marries his fiancée Victoria Romanovna Bettarini.

She is a 39 year old Italian that recently changed her name.
She will probably give the self titled Grand Duke many heirs.
I don’t know about “many heirs” if she’s 39. One or two would be more realistic at that age. But she’s looks like a nice gal. Bella Italiana. And probably a good cook too.
Not guilty, your honor.

They better not drink the champagne from the bottle that Vladimir sent them.
Czar Nicholas who was murdered Was his father a direct ancestor of this duke ???
Great grand dad or so ???
Here’s to tradition. I am glad the commies didn’t kill them all off!
No shortage of indirect descendants, and perhaps a few direct. All the royals and nobles of Europe were related. Not at all surprising that one of them is Italian on her father’s side, but a Romanovna on her mother’s. My they live in inbred bliss together.
They weren’t much better than the commies themselves, horrible despots. But insofar as they were not commies, that itself is an improvement.
Nicholas abdicated, but he expected some cousin of his or other to take over, but the cousin refused.
I was being a sarcastic smart ass.
If he really sees himself as a pretender to the Czarist Throne he should really marry a ~25 year old woman.
Beautiful. I bet that whole thing costs some serious rubels.
Nicholas offered the throne to his younger brother Michael, who accepted it pending a vote by the Provisional Government, which did not take place, thereby effectively ending Romanov rule over Russia in 1917. I would not have minded seeing the Romanov rule reinstated for ceremonial purposes, as in a constitutional monarchy like in the U.K. and elsewhere in Europe.
The way in which the Romanovs were savagely murdered will forever be the history of the Russian Revolution.
No matter how they try to make it go away.
The murder of what they thought was the entire family was unconscionable, horrible, savage and unnecessary.
I’m sorry, but I liked seeing a surviving Romanov to tell those savages that...THAT IS NOT WHAT YOU DO IN A REVOLUTION.
Kill innocent children for what????
The Romanovs will, in my opinion, will be revered in the present world.
The important thing is....she can make Stroganoff Marinara....
Can she make Noodles Romanov?
As long as they had some sort of buffering power against a complete commie takeover, it might have been worth it. But the Romanovs and the Groznys before them were a nasty bunch for the most part. The only reason for the end of the Grozny dynasty was because Ivan Grozny, in a fit of rage, murdered his only son who died without heir. These are the people who established the Pale of Settlement for Jews, encouraged pogroms, and also oppressed the serfs to no end.
Sure. “Cook! Make some Stroganoff Marinara tonight.” Done and done.
Grozny was a descriptive name, translated as Terrible or Formidable.
His dynasty was the Rurikid, from the founder Rurik.
