As I understand it...

If the bail is $200,000, you as the defendant, have to put up
10% or $20,000 dollars. The bail firm would then put up the
remaining $180,000 collars.

That 10% / $20,000 would not be returned to you. If you
show up and are found guilty or innocent, the bail money
is returned to the bail firm.

Your $20,000 would be the fee for getting the bail firm to
put up the $180,000.

Those reading this. Please correct me where I’m off base
if I am.

Yeah, if you use a bail bond company, they keep your part.

Don’t ask how I know. ;)

Wisconsin is an exception. Bail firms, commonly known as bail bondsmen, are not allowed in Wisconsin.

Rittenhouse had a cash bond.

My understanding is a cash bond requires the full bail amount be paid and is not financed through a bail bondsman.

A surety bond is the kind you described.

Your synopsis is correct. It's possible he couldn't find a bonding company to put up the $2m.
