On July 13, 2021, William English, PhD, made a summary of the latest National Firearms Survey (NFS) available to the public online. The survey uses the advanced techniques created with digital technology and the Internet to quantify numbers about firearms ownership, carry, and defensive use.
Surveys for information on defensive gun uses (DGU) have been absent for most of a quarter-century. This is because of the difficulty and expense of conducting such surveys by telephone.
Surveys about defensive uses of firearms have fallen into two camps. Most surveys have found large numbers of defensive uses of firearms, from about 500,000 per year to three million per year. From the CDC study commissioned by the Obama administration:
Defensive use of guns by crime victims is a common occurrence, although the exact number remains disputed (Cook and Ludwig, 1996; Kleck, 2001a). Almost all national survey estimates indicate that defensive gun uses by victims are at least as common as offensive uses by criminals, with estimates of annual uses ranging from about 500,000 to more than 3 million (Kleck, 2001a), in the context of about 300,000 violent crimes involving firearms in 2008 (BJS, 2010). On the other hand, some scholars point to a radically lower estimate of only 108,000 annual defensive uses based on the National Crime Victimization Survey (Cook et al., 1997). The variation in these numbers remains a controversy in the field. The estimate of 3 million defensive uses per year is based on an extrapolation from a small number of responses taken from more than 19 national surveys. The former estimate of 108,000 is difficult to interpret because respondents were not asked specifically about defensive gun use.
Significantly, the CDC conducted surveys in 1996, 1997, and 1998,

It was conducted in February and March of 2021.
Called the National Firearms Survey, I am attempting to find out if this is the same National Firearms Survey referenced in the recent Wall Street Journal article.
The anti’s response. Kroegers near Nashville. All other points are then null and void. But, thanks for helping us reaffirm what we know. As for the report in the WSJ, not sure. Sounds like the Kleck report from the past, updated.

And there’s no way of knowing how much crime is deterred by the knowledge that any bystander might be armed. Even in a gun free zone, a perpetrator must gamble on the compliance of the populace in general.
Not really. Here in DC, if you as a bystander shoot a mass murderer with a gun without proper licensure, you are going to jail. The perp will likely get off, but you are going to jail, straight to jail, probably in solitary until trial.
On the Kroger incident,... There’s a photo, too.

And then the CDC chose NOT TO PUBLISH THE RESULTS, most likely because they proved the CDC preconceptions (anti-gun) to be wrong.
Pretty blurry, 1 thing I couldn’t find was type of gun. Collierville is laid back sleepy berg, to lazy to take advantage of PERMITLESS CARRY.
I live in Atoka, TN ALL 7K OF us, Tipton Co, I don’t go anywhere except Federal, without my CCW gun. I had to have a special holster made, Retired guy, who has made a 26 yr Leather working side job, now it is a side job, pure leather, USA MADE, BY A US SENIOR CITIZEN. He takes a few orders. $36.00. You can’t buy 1 for that elsewhere.
S/W didn’t make one for my .38SP Air Weight Hammerless Pistol, which has a Beast of a Butt, not fallen out once. Took us a while to figure out it took a J Frame modified holster.
So, their argument is that there aren’t enough defensive guns out there?
Hmm any chance your guy is open for orders? My current holster is getting old and could use a replacement soon!
Yes, and if locked up or executed, repeat offenders drop big time. Certain ones need executed within 5 yrs like TX, TN has them on DR over 30+ yrs. As Fed appeals are halted they can’t move up, which could be done on Zoom teleconference. Memphis holds prelims via camera, a inmate got violent so they moved to holding the prelims via camera to protect the judges.

And there is really no way of knowing how many crimes are prevented because the criminals have knowledge that the victim carries.
