As if the novel coronavirus wasn’t enough, residents of Kerala and its neighbouring states are now having to deal with the threat of another virus: the Nipah virus. (75% mortality rate)
On Sunday, September 5, the virus claimed its latest victim: a 12-year-old boy who died of the disease in Kozhikode, Kerala. Two health workers who were in contact with the boy have also developed symptoms since, and are currently under surveillance. A total of 188 people are on the ‘contact’ list with the deceased, and 20 of these are from the index list or high-risk category.
Hope the WHO does this one better than Covid-19!
