My very first credit card was issued to me from Sears back in the early 1980s.

I had a whopping $400 credit limit which seemed very heady at the time. Got some Craftsman tools, a pair of blue jeans and a boombox player with a cassette deck.

Thats cool.
My 1st major purchase in 72 was a Hoover Celebrity vacuum from Sears at Sunrise & US1 in Lauderdale. Had to keep our Bachelor Pad on Las Olas tidy
Bought it on Sears credit paid it off and established credit.
I still have the vac and it works great

Same here. Bought tools and a rolling tool box. Still have them all.

And took 20 years to pay it off at $8 per month? :-)

I remember my first credit card, a Minnesota Vikings-themed Citibank VISA. I looked at it and thought, “This piece of plastic is the same as $2000. $2000!”. I had never seen that much money in one place in my life, much less in the palm of my hand. It didn’t take long to realize that the $2000 wasn’t REAL money, but it took REAL money to pay the bill every month. I made about $8 per hour at the time, so yeah, that’s how that goes.

Live and learn, sometimes the hard way.

I had received a boom box from Sears for my birthday. It didn’t work. I took it back, the salesman tried it with the same result, then went to the back room and brought out another one. He tried it, it worked perfectly, said “There ya go” and that was that.
A few years later I had purchased a Swiss Army Knife from Sears. It was Sears branded but made by Swiss Army. I dropped it, breaking off the tip.
To my surprise, they exchanged that, too. I still have and use it.
