Eliminating the European VAT on heat pumps would be a better value I’m sure.
“Planting a 100 million trees would result in a total amount of 18 million (!) tons of Carbon being captured every single year. A baby tree absorbs 5.9kg CO2 per year, while a 10 year old tree absorbs 22kg CO2 per year.”
www.carbonpirates.com/blog/how-much-carbon-do-trees-absorb/
Son 1 tree absorbs .18 tons of carbon a year.
So that 4000 tons is the eqivalent of 4000/.18 = 22,222 trees.
You can plant 300 to 800 trees per acre. So lets go with 500 trees per acre. That would take 44 acres of trees.
I think they could have planted trees.
It is to make money from liberal investors and tax incentives.
While consuming, I know no what, but it’s what machines do.
If it’s attached to an electric grid, by 2030 there isn’t supposed to be one so then what?
...and as so many here have postulated, why build a machine to do what forests do for free, unless as you state it is to make money.
They mention that it is run off geothermal energy. In Iceland those plants are run using surface water pumped down near the hot magma which then turns to steam and generates turbines.
All of the photos I saw of the plants have towering white plumes of water vapor going up into the atmosphere. Water vapor is the main source of the “Greenhouse Effect”. So I wonder if they are offsetting anything at all?
Many geothermal plants have a “closed loop” system where the cooled down water is pumped back underground. But based on the photos, that doesn’t seem to be the case in Iceland.
.... 4,000 tonnes per year, equivalent to the annual emissions from about 790 cars...
_______________
FReeper Confession.
I had 60 to 100 employees year round that all drove their cars to work.
My businesses had about 100 trucks , tractors, vans and other rolling stock.
I don’t know what their silly project cost but they will erase about 5 years of my pollution.
And here I am polluting the comment section of FR.
I can hardly keep the gun out of my mouth ‘sarc
Instantly? Maybe 1 hour of eruption might equal a couple years of this remediation. I don’t remember the exact statistic but roughly speaking I read the stat that the fire that leveled much of suburban Santa Rosa here in Ca put out as much co2 in ten days than all sources in the state emit in 10 years. This plant is just symbolic bs.
So it’s a coal making machine..........It just takes a very long time to bring to market.
Virtue-signaling gone wild.
What kind of rock? Carbon dioxide plus water yields carbonic acid. (It’s an equilibrium reaction, for you science nerds.) No “rock” is involved. So I guess I’m missing something here.
I saw that contraption in the movie Spaceballs...the intent was to kill the planet.
More like: World’s Biggest plant for sucking Króna out of the pockets of suckers.
Plants are growing better. Tundra is turning into forests and grassland. The weather is nicer. Not by much but every degree the weather warms life gets better. Animals get more area to roam. Birds get more wetland. And plants live longer, grow taller and feed more wildlife. CO2 is great for the planet. And in the past there have been periods with far more and far less CO2. And the earth has been far warmer and far cooler. So there is nothing going on that has not happened in the past. And this is a great time to be alive.
I suspect that their real goal is separating foolish liberals from their money.
“Individuals can purchase a monthly subscription to Climeworks, which for a set fee, will enable the permanent removal of carbon dioxide from the air. Subscriptions start at $8 monthly, with $24 and $55 subscription levels as well.”

Well it’ll have to be a hardy forest.
But actually a little investigation comes up with this tidbit:
“At the time of human settlement almost 1150 years ago, birch forest and woodland covered 25-40% of Iceland’s land area. The relatively tall (to 15 m) birch forests of sheltered valleys graded to birch and willow scrub toward the coast, on exposed sites and in wetland areas and to willow tundra at high elevations.”....” In Iceland as elsewhere, regeneration failure due to livestock grazing is the principal cause of deforestation”.
So um, the Noble Icelanders did it to themselves. They wanna make the world better? Reforest.
so if the plant uses more steel than 790 cars AND the thermal energy used to operate the plant could have generated enough electricity to power more than 790 electric cars (in place of 790 IC cars) instead of this plant, then this plant results in a net GAIN of carbon in the atmosphere (as do ALL carbon-removal schemes excepting planting trees) ...
An amazing waste of resources.
Plant more trees.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen people cut down trees and not replant because they couldn’t be bothered with raking up the leaves.
The tree lined streets I grew up within the 60’s and 70’s are gone for good because of politics.
The whole idea is horseshit. CO2 is healthy.
Iceland is almost entirely running off of hydroelectric and geothermal.
