Mount Vernon is a great take as well.

Agree with Laslo Fripp -- Mount Vernon is an excellent place. Its Visitors Center is very interesting, as are the tours of the house and all the farm outbuildings where Washington ran his export business. Until Trump, Washington was the richest President (in comparable dollars) from his enterprises.

Also wonderful and not far away is James Madison's recently refurbished estate, Montpelier. You can see the room where he wrote the Constitution, and the wonderful rolling hills descending into the distance from that upstairs room.

Farther south near Charlottesville is Jefferson's Monticello estate. Fascinating look at his ingeniousness as expressed in the home he designed and many of his instruments in his office, such as a copying device that enabled a penman to write on two pieces of paper at once.

Prepare yourself for the inevitable preaching about slavery; but it's still worth a look at these Founders' homes. Check the above websites for any fascistmask or fascistvax requirements.
