As to whether Pence comments on Afghanistan or not, of course he can comment on Afghanistan now. He helped work on reaching a deal. It would be strange for Pence not to comment on Dementia Joe’s total disaster.

His duty was entirely ceremonial. He was required to open the certification envelopes. Nothing more. There is ZERO provision in the Constitution for the President of the Senate to say “You know what, I don’t think these are valid, so I’m rejecting them.”
And any “conservative” who suggests that’s what Pence should have done hasn’t thought it through. What happens when Kamala Harris is the President of the Senate, and she decides that SHE wants to reject the certifications from the states? Are all the “conservatives” who thought that’s what Pence should have done going to say “well, golly, ol’ Kamala says those votes aren’t valid, so I guess they aren’t!” ??
