This collapse is happening so much faster than what happened to South Vietnam in 1975, it’s astonishing.

South Vietnam at least tried to fight. Literally nobody in the Afghan Army did.

The glaring difference....the south Vietnamese tried to fight. The Afghani’s gave up in huge numbers before any fighting. Heck, many (most?) are either sympathetic or supporters of the Taliban anyway. They were just all too happy to take the American tax dollars to pretend to care about their 7th century “country.”

I was just a teenager at the time, but Vietnam was not like Afghanistan, in that we were just pulling out of the southern portion of Vietnam.

We basically held Afghanistan completely.

The taliban had a plan, and executed it.

They were basically out of public view until we stood down, then they just marched on in.

Sad so many did not see the possibility.
