Islamic State-inspired actors threatened venue, and attacked it after threats went unheeded
A luxurious seaside resort in the Gaza Strip was attacked with an explosive device, reportedly due to it holding events with male and female guests.
The Bianco Resort was accused by hardline Muslims of failing to maintain gender segregation, and on Thursday was targeted in an explosion that caused no casualties but damaged a surrounding wall, The Jerusalem Post reported.
Salafist groups active in the Gaza Strip were accused by Palestinians of being responsible. While marginalized compared to the Iranian-linked Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and Hamas – which governs Gaza – some Islamic State (IS) inspired groups are present in the Mediterranean enclave.
The owner of the resort was warned by Salafists against holding a mixed gender concert, but went ahead, the Post reported.
Hamas has clashed with ISIS-inspired Gazans in the past, arresting or killing a number of them.
“Today we went to Bianco Resort to deny the evil before it happens, as this resort will hold a mixed singing party tomorrow on the beach of Beit Lahiya. Therefore, we ask the [Hamas] government to stop this evil before it happens. I call on all preachers and sheikhs to publicly denounce this evil after the owner refused our request not to hold the party,” Issa Miqdad, an individual associated with the Salafist groups in Gaza wrote on Facebook, August 5.
The owner of the resort, Suhail al-Saqqa, said that he had received permission from Hamas to hold the event.
This philosophy was taken up by Al Wahhab in the 1750s and he married into the al Saud family (and they married into his) and these two went about to create the Saudi empire (the first Saudi empire destroyed the Shia shrines in what is now Iraq before being crushed by the Ottomans and their leaders, the al-Saud emir was hung)
