Alexander Dumas wrote The Count of Monte Christo. It’s one of my favorite novels that I ever read.
I’ve read it twice: once for school, once for pleasure. It’s really an amazing novel and so finely shows the politics of the world around that time in history.
The 2002 movie with Jim Caviezel was an outstanding rendition of the book if not a bit short.
