The Greatest Threat to Our Democracy Isn't the Capitol Riot. It's Something Far Worse...
PJ Media ^ | 07/30/2021 | Tyler O'Neil

On Tuesday, the chairman of the Capitol riot committee, Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.), claimed that “the rioters came dangerously close to succeeding” in their effort to “upend American democracy.” That statement is, quite frankly, ludicrous, but there are serious threats to American representative democracy at work today, and we need to fight against them.

While the Capitol riot was a national disgrace, it did not represent a serious threat to America’s constitutional system of government. Rioters broke through the strangely weak police lines and breached the Capitol, but the senators and congressmen evacuated safely. Vice President Mike Pence did not bow to pressure, Congress resumed a few hours after the violence, and both chambers certified the Electoral College results, declaring that Joe Biden would be the next president.

Although serious concerns about the 2020 presidential election remain unresolved, the Constitution is clear: the Electoral College makes the decision, and the Electoral College chose Biden. Even if audits cast doubt on the results in key states, the Electoral College decision stands. Republicans are right to demand election integrity laws, but it does not help to re-litigate the 2020 election.

The Capitol riot did not seriously threaten America’s representative democracy, but that democracy does indeed face serious threats.

First, the public’s increasing skepticism about the electoral process is dangerous. The counting of votes should not be partisan, and election reform should also not be partisan. Americans should want every legally eligible voter to be able to vote and they should want every legally cast ballot counted. Representative democracy only works if the people trust the officials who count the ballots, and those officials need to earn that trust.

Time magazine may have provided a hint when it published an astonishing story about a “cabal” and a “shadow campaign” that pulled the levers behind the scenes in the 2020 election. While the article claims these efforts aimed at preserving a free and fair election, organizations like the Center for Tech and Civic Life (CTCL) funneled money into blue areas of the country, boosting turnout that helped Biden prevail.

Contrary to Biden’s rhetoric, the efforts to restore election integrity — largely advanced by Republicans — represent an important move to shore up America’s representative democracy. Meanwhile, the Democrats’ key piece of election legislation, H.R. 1 or the “For the People Act,” represents a federal takeover of election law, complete with restrictions on free political speech and the same 2020 election practices that raised red flags.

Perhaps the greatest threat to democracy isn’t H.R. 1 but the increasing ideological polarization between the two parties.

The greatest threat to our Republic is the cowardly silence and actions of the people we voted for who did not/do not fight back in 2020 to today...

War is here. Hot war is coming.

The biggest threat to the Constitution are the people we have elected that refuse to uphold it.

Another greatest threat to our Republic is when our Republic is constantly a "Democracy" ... when this is not the proper description.

"Control the language: control the debate."

And that has been going on for a long time. And the young people have lived under the “new” Constitution and are use to it.

We are in serious trouble

‘I Thought I Was Going To Die’, Says Capitol Police Officer Who Held Door Open For Protestors On Jan. 6
July 29th, 2021 - BabylonBee.com

WASHINGTON, D.C.—In a harrowing testimony before the January 6th Committee, Capitol Police Officer Lenny Burbo revealed his paralyzing fear as MAGA terrorist insurrectionist racists stormed the Capitol.

“I stood there, paralyzed by fear as I held the door open so people could enter,” said Burbo. “As boomer after boomer entered the facility in an orderly line and began to take selfies, I saw my life flash before my eyes. I literally thought I was going to die.”

When asked why he had politely held the door open for everyone to enter the building unimpeded, he replied that he feared for his life and that one of the larger rioters had come up to him and said “step aside cupcake” in an intimidating voice.

“I knew my only option was to step aside or be drawn and quartered by a throng of evil bad people who voted for Trump and are also racist,” he said as tears welled up in his eyes.
Officer Burbo has been awarded a medal of bravery since even though he opened the door for rioters, he really didn’t want to do it, and his heart was in the right place.
The FBI has issued a warrant for the man who called Officer Burbo a “cupcake” and is asking anyone with information to call Nancy Pelosi’s office immediately.

Absolutely it was

I want to know why when the Wisconsin Capitol was taken over for 30 days, instead of arrests there were parades.

“While the Capitol riot was a national disgrace,’

I agree with that statement. It was a national disgrace. Why? Because it was and is the result of the inhabitants of that sh*t hole who caused what was inevitable.

Do if these pr*cks want to see who caused that protest, they can look in the mirror. They and their shyster buddies the scum MSM.

The counting of votes should not be partisan, and election reform should also not be partisan.

That is obviously true but very naive. The Dems make every issue partisan. And they do not want fair and open elections as they will lose many of them.

Americans should want every legally eligible voter to be able to vote and they should want every legally cast ballot counted.

Most off us do. Tell the politicians in Washington and secretaries of state around the country.

“While the Capitol riot was a national disgrace”

Same here, FULL STOP, came here to post and I see many others had the same take.

Sad to say, but we fell for it AGAIN!

Right from the beginning it was obviously “trumped up” BULLSHIRT!

Oh NOZE! “Attack on the Capitol” as if it were “Holy” ground.

The Right’s response ...

“It WAS a disgrace, but” STOP RIGHT THERE. You already LOST! Pled GUILTY! You morons! When will you learn.

There should have been OUTRAGE over fencing off the Capitol with Concertina wire and deploying the National Guard.

Over WHAT? People trespassing in their own Capitol building? Putting their feet up on Nanzi’s desk? Scaring Congressmen and Senators afraid to face the “people”?

We played right into their hands just like we always do.

Now we are legitimizing this charade by holding hearings over it, and PARTICIPATING in them!

I fear that this country, this great experiment, is finished.

We can NOT recover from all this.

The FAKE impeachments, not ONE, but TWO! The stolen “IN YOUR FACE” elections. The seizing of POWER like some Banana Republic.

ITS OVER!
