One of the more ignorant journalists on the planet. Take a gander at the Periodic Table. At the beginning you see Hydrogen, then Helium and quick, tell me what #3 is. Yup, Lithium
Lithium is not uncommon. Just difficult to mine using evaporative ponds. The entire industry is being disrupted, and those who do some due diligence can proposer from this disruption.

Um, maybe you should take a chemistry course before making the conclusion that position in the table means abundance.
Are you suggesting the periodic table numbers are rankings of how prevalent the elements are on Earth, because that is absolutely not how the periodic table works.
Lithium beneath the Salton Sea.

Have no idea what the worldwide supply of cobalt looks like.
Helium is the second most common in the universe but I believe it's comparatively rare on earth, especially us being able to mine and use Helium. So "Gandering" at the Periodic Table isn't a good argument.
I would look for a reserve number for Lithium. What is the level of the latest Lithium reserves.
Li ranks 33rd in the earths crust, less prevalent than carbon or even copper or nickel.
