“The then vice president refused, pointing out that his constitutional role was “largely ceremonial” and that it would be wrong for him to have unilateral power to accept or reject electoral college votes.”
Until the 17th amendment made the Senate ceremonial, there was nothing ceremonial in the Constitution.
Everything in the constitution was in there for a reason.
One theme that ran through the constitution was to protect the minority from the tyranny of large cities. That protection has been eroded in the USA.
Hero for commies he was.
Is this referring to the murder of Ashli Babbitt by the known mystery murdering Capitol cop?
Some hero.....sells out our country and hides his head in the sand.
Newsweak, huh? Natch.
I regard Pence with particular contempt. He is a hypocrite, a liar, and a traitor to the American people. A hero? Don’t make me spray my iced coffee all over the screen!
Derp State Savior Pence. A traitor to the Constitution and America.
Pence did the same thing every politician would have done. There is only one person in politics who would have taken thr arrows that a different play would have produced and it’s Donald J. Trump. For all of the DeSantis fans I suggest to you he would have done exactly the same thing as Pence. Trump is different everyone else is just a politician.
Only to RHINOs, liberals and Democrats is Pence a hero.
Pence lead a stealth 25th Amendment. He helped the steal.
Then after the velvet rope riot, he functioned AS president and told Trump he was officially still in office, but could make no decisions. No pardons without Pence approval, no military would follow his orders, no DOJ, no FBI, no CIA would either.
Notice the mass exodus of Cabinet after the 6th?
Notice like all coups, they “seized the radio station”?.
Trump frozen out of all social media. All MSM coordinated the message.
Troops flooded the streets.
He was told if he played ball, he could leave without prosecution. If he resisted, they would openly 25th him the next day, and he and his kids would be arrested.
The Rosetta Stone of the coup, is WHO ordered 2 divisions of soldiers into the streets and kept them there for months? That is where the power of the presidency actually was. Trump did not give those orders.
I say it was Pence the traitor.
FUMP and Jacob Jarvis.
Gaslighters gonna gaslight.
How was he a hero?????? He’s yet to show “hero” status to me in any shape, form or fashion! If I ever saw his lemon sucking face again it would be too soon!
Its always fascinating to see how history tests the intellect and political courage of people when they are confronted with the defining moment in their career and life. Although Pence was mislead by his aid, Mark Short, he should have had the intellectual skepticism to suspect the election was being stolen and respond to the letters from the state legislatures asking for time to do an audit.
He still tries to paint this as tipping the election for Trump but it was always about respecting the people’s right to choose their President in a free and fair process. As Steve Bannon has stated about Pence, “A third rate intellect and a first rate coward.”
The only thing Pence did that was loyal to the president was not taking a pistol out and shooting him. Instead, Pence moped around like a spanked puppy and let the fraud roll free.
Pontius Pence
What did he do that was so heroic? He rubberstamped a stolen election that had reasonable concerns about its legitimacy. He then figurative kicked the President in the nuts and joined the enemy camp.
We Hoosiers knew Mike’s true colors. I warned y’all the day Trump picked him. He’s your best friend until the day it becomes opportune to stab you in the back.
This article is feint praise of Pence that is really designed to cause further division.
Pence is neither a hero nor a villain. He has no unilateral powers to have done anything either way outside of making parliamentary rulings as the Chair overseeing the proceedings, and all of those would be subject to appeal by vote. The Constitution grants him no direct authority other than he “shall” count the Electors that are presented, and the rules of the proceedings as set out by statute don’t grant him any authority, either. The VP in that role is little more than a warm body. Rejections of Electors would have to come from vote of both houses of Congress...which did not and was not going to happen.
