July 5, US forces shot down an armed drone above their embassy in Baghdad. Barron's reported it with reference to the Iraqi security services.
“American defence systems fired rockets into the air in Baghdad, according to AFP reporters, with Iraqi security sources saying the salvos took out a drone that was laden with explosives,” reads the message.
According to Voice of America, the attack took place at 14:45. The scale of the damage is still being estimated; no information about the victims is provided. The responsibility for the attack has not been claimed yet.
Earlier, the Pentagon conducted targeted airstrikes against “facilities used by Iran-backed militia groups” on the Iraq-Syria border. The decision was made by President Joe Biden, as Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said.

"Given the ongoing series of attacks by Iran-backed groups targeting U.S. interests in Iraq, the President directed further military action to disrupt and deter such attacks," Kirby added.
It was noted that the US armed forces are in Iraq at the invitation of the Government of Iraq for the sole purpose of assisting the Iraqi Security Forces in their efforts to defeat ISIS.

So, which upcoming night will Biden order the US to abandon Iraq? Not that I disagree, but how we exit should be organized and careful, not hidden unannounced in the middle of the night. And definitely should include the removal or destruction of all US equipment, weapons, and munitions.
I don't think it matters. Regardless of how careful or organized, once the US is gone, it will create a vacuum, and that will be filled with Taliban. We've known this for many, many years. We knew this before going in. There will be no stability once the US is out.
If we had a conscious American President we would also strike the owner of the drone.

Many causes are contributing to the coming disaster but Iraq and Afghanistan will both be lost this year and Sleepy Joe will get the credit.

I think that ship sailed with Bagram’s bug out. How are embassy contractors and personnel going get out safely now if the SHTF?
Get to the embassy and wait for a helicopter on the roof?
Lol, just a few more people living and working on the Kabul US Embassy compounds (yes, compoundS) than there were in Saigon. With all the handheld video cameras out there, there will be much more footage this time than just people climbing to the rooftop.
