NO you are not cynical. Mitch McConnell knew this was coming from the Dems. Same for all other Republicans involved. All was pre-arranged. This dance w the Dems, the "shocked!" part, it is too low n sh!tty to dignify it by calling it Kabuki theater. This is a Punch and Judy show of puppets on strings. Put on for the sheeple of America.
