I'm a 73 year old female. I've never had polyps, but my father did, and had them removed twice. As far as I know, they were never cancerous, although he died of lung cancer at the age of 73. I've never smoked, but that means nothing to cancer. Because my father had polyps, my then Family Doctor sent me for a colonoscopy when I was 50.

My youngest son, now 50, was diagnosed with cancerous polyps in 2019, had surgery (two resections), and went through 6 months of chemo. He's been cancer-free since. The Gastroenterologist who diagnosed the cancer told him he wished my son had come to him 10 years earlier, because the polyps were so big. He'd never seen them that big. My son was 48 in 2019 when diagnosed. Ten years earlier, he would have been 38, and at that time, and they wouldn't have even bothered testing him. He didn't start exhibiting any symptoms (blood in stool) until the first part of 2019, when he made the appointment with the Gastroenterologist.

I'd previously been diagnosed with diverticulitis, and wasn't eating popcorn, corn, raisins, nuts, and although the doctor never told me not to eat seeds, I stopped eating them. Despite following a strict diet as directed, back in 2010, I ended up having emergency surgery as my bowel had perforated from the diverticulitis. I had to have a temporary colostomy for three months. I also have GERD, a hiatal hernia, and Barrett's Esophagus. Because of the Barrett's, I'm supposed to have a gastroscopy once a year because of it, but I don't. On Thursday I'm having a gastroscopy and colonoscopy. My doctor will do them at the same time, despite only being paid for one procedure. When I had my last colonoscopy, he told me I didn't need one for five years, but when I had my last gastroscopy two years ago, and told him about my youngest son's cancer surgery, he told me he wanted me to have a colonoscopy every two years. It's been four years, and I'm hoping that he'll tell me I won't have to have them anymore, and just continue with the gastroscopy as needed.

And don’t keep gerbils. Seems to be a connection between owning gerbils and colon cancer.

“Colorectal”

Sounds racist?

A mystery, you say.

Maybe exits aren’t supposed to be used for entrances.

““We don’t know where this is coming from,” said Dr. Charles Rogers, assistant professor in the Public Health Division of the University of Utah School of Medicine whose specialty is addressing the racial inequalities in healthcare”

In other words a fake scientist who looks for evidence for politically based pre-determined conclusions.

It’s no wonder he knows nothing.

I never went to medical school, but I think the colon is somewhere in yer tummy, Doc. You could start looking there.

More evidence of white privilege? Time for more billion dollar moonshot projects. (Pun not intended.)

Yup. Big yawn. I predict cancers skyrocket in the coming few years.

Shameful, though. So easy to avoid, but nobody gives a crap - no pun intended - until it’s too late, even though the solution is right in front of them.

I elaborate ‘why’ in my book.

I went a little crazy and searched it.

Anal sex increases your risk of. Colorectal cancer.

Men and women girls and boys are having this promoted to them as a wonderful experience

BLECH

and sheepily are going along with it, getting sick more often, and dying more often. How sexy.

https://sandrarose.com/2020/08/medical-minute-does-anal-sex-increase-your-chances-of-getting-anal-cancer/

At such sites as Reddit you are just a square if you are not into it. Good grief people are stupid.

Of course not all with this cancer have indulged in this weirdness but it explains the “inexplicable” rise in rates among the young. Wow I don’t even have a college degree and I have figured it out.

One of my BILs woke up during that “procedure” consciously aware of the aparaturus jammed up his a55.

No thank you.

I understand conservatives' anxiety about the dismay and disgust we feel at the crumbling of traditional Western morality and the assault on public health by pagan behaviors.

The deflection into speculations about sexuality or race by individuals on this thread masked the point of the article: PREVENTION. This disease attacks all types of people. The black man this article led off with, Chadwick Boseman, was a Christian, married to a woman, who died at 43. The white attorney married to Katie Couric also died at age 43 of colon cancer.

This short video gives a good explanation of what takes place during a colonoscopy, and how important it is to find any polyps before they grow into the intestinal wall and need to be removed surgically instead of during a quick outpatient procedure:

What Happens During a Colonoscopy?

My best friend got this disease in her late 50s. I miss going through old age without her sense of humor. No one else "knew me when." I wish she had gotten a colonoscopy before it attacked not only her colon, but metastasized to her lungs.

If you are overdue for a colonoscopy, do your loved ones a favor and schedule the procedure today.

“We don’t know where this is coming from,” said Dr. Charles Rogers

It's coming from poor diet & societal breakdown - processed junk foods. People don't sit around the dinner table at 5:30 anymore and have a balanced diet. Then having Mom make oatmeal or cream of wheat or Cherios in the morning. They eat sugar and skittles and candy and junk food like drive in stuff and Taco Bell.
