Actor Chadwick Boseman died last year at the age of 43 from stage 4 colon cancer. The “Black Panther” star represents a troubling trend of men younger than 49 who are at an unusually high risk of dying from colorectal cancer. According to a study published in the American Journal of Cancer Research, despite the overall reduction in the cases of colorectal cancer in America, there are geographical “hot spots” where cases of this potentially deadly cancer are soaring.
June is National Men’s Health Month and it is critical that American men pay attention to their risk factors for developing cancer. This is especially important for men who live in, or grew up in, the areas identified as hot spots for colorectal cancer.
According to STAT, Black men in these areas are more likely to be diagnosed with advanced stages of colorectal cancer and are also more likely to die from it than white men. According to the study, there are 232 counties in the U.S. where men ages 20 to 49 are at increased risk of developing colorectal cancer, including Anderson County, South Carolina, where Boseman grew up.
Since the 1990’s, the rate of colorectal cancer has declined for people age 50 and older but has more than doubled among younger American adults. A recent study predicted that colorectal cancer will be the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in people ages 20 to 49 by the year 2030, says STAT.
Experts are baffled.
“We don’t know where this is coming from,” said Dr. Charles Rogers, assistant professor in the Public Health Division of the University of Utah School of Medicine whose specialty is addressing the racial inequalities in healthcare and who was the lead author in the hot spots study.

Human papilloma virus gets into the strangest places and the result is not good.
He = Doctor
I got my blood pressure down from 140/90+ to easily below 128/80 and my LDL from a high of 139 down to 104 in five months by doing the following:
1) Vigorous aerobic exercise four times a week running roughly 50 minutes on treadmill or outdoors averaging 8.50 minute miles over roughly 6 miles. This has helped with energy too.
2) No caffeine.
3) Good protein (salmon, chicken breast, lean pork chops, eggs, no-fat milk), Good fat (almonds, cashews, olive oil for cooking and cold first press olive oil on stuff I eat, avocados, almond milk, low saturated foods.
4) Carbohydrates of fruit, veggies (preferably green ones like broccoli, brussel sprouts, and spinach), and whole grain breads, oatmeal, bran shredded wheat cereals, etc.
5) NO sugar of any kind.
6) LOW LOW LOW sodium for the blood pressure.
I have not been this healthy in years and I’m 56.
The toughest thing to do was getting my daily sodium intake down to around 500 mg or about half of the daily recommended amounts due to high blood pressure. EVERYTHING has WAY TOO MUCH SALT in it.
My treat are cashews, peanut butter (Smuckers All Natural Chunky), fibre crackers, Anjou pears, hard and crisp red delicious apples, etc.
For sweetener, I use Truvia and it works well.
Congrats!! I’m 65 lbs down last 3 years eating REAL food - no processed junk, no vegetable seed oils, no sugars. Low carb - 20g or less per day - had to get seriously ‘serious’ to reverse pre-Type 2 diabetes. Feel fantastic, look/act 15-20 years younger than my actual age. :-)
The absolutely BEST sleep I have ever had in my life was when I was put asleep for both of my colonoscopies.
I wish I could like Rip Van Winkle and wake up in twenty years. Imagine how rested you’d feel.
Of course the country will be worse shape though. LOL
No caffeine? Nevah!!!
I'm reminded of the radium patches used on ships during WW2 to mark hatches and other openings so that they could be seen during 'lights-out' operations. Many men made belt buckles and etc out of them and got cancer.
Curcumin & IP6 are both safe, and may help people who are sick or at high risk.
That’s how Michael Jackson died.

I’ve had three colonoscopies and zero polyps.(77 years old)
Eat lots of fruit and vegetables and less fried food and stay away from sweet drinks.
Daily aerobic excercise.(Excersise is the key to long life, IMO)
***********************************************************
I’m 78 near 79 and have had 2 colonoscopies with zero polyps with one tech saying my colon was as smooth as a babies. I love comfort food. Pizza, mac and cheese, cheeseburgers, fries, baked ziti, meatball parm subs. I do like fruit and have some daily. My favorite drink is Raspberry Lemonade. My vitals are great my weight has not changed by more than 5 lbs in the past 50 yrs and I am not on any medication.
My whole point in detailing this is to say I think genetics have a whole lot more to do with health than diet.
Unsulfured black strap molasses does the trick too.
Hold the gains now.
Well I’m well past 56....eat what I want when I want...lots of coffee....excersize with daily activity called living life......and have no health issues.
“Stop jamming stuff in there”
Is there analarming rate because of a rise of young men having anal intercourse?
What’s the homosexual rate of colon cancer?
Fecal felonies being punished....
The diet and exercise is good, but not always sufficient. My virtuous Dutch father-in-law did all that and more, and was in otherwise great shape, but both his parents died of colon cancer and he had it early and passed away in his early 50s.
The toughest thing to do was getting my daily sodium intake down to around 500 mg or about half of the daily recommended amounts due to high blood pressure. EVERYTHING has WAY TOO MUCH SALT in it.

Careful with reducing salt/sodium. I don’t eat processed food much but had bought into the “salt=bad” mindset many years ago AND drinking TOO MUCH water(can land you in the ER due to sodium washout). About 10 years ago, at age 55, my blood work showed slightly low sodium levels. Staying at that level or going lower can have BAD results(https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/hyponatremia/expert-answers/low-blood-sodium/faq-20058465)
so I started ADDING salt to my mostly carnivorous, dairy(eggs), and vegetable diet. Sodium levels stay in the “good” range now since doing that.
Best sleep ever.
Agreed. It’s the same drug Michael Jackson got addicted to.
As a dedicated caffeinetarian, I declare this heresy. Nectar of the gods.
