Might have torn the metal of the roof just on her side of the car, while only crunching the metal on his side. The sharp metal, p,us the force of the gate smashing down could have done it I suppose, if that is how it happened.

That is the only reasonable explanation of how such a thing could have happened.
I have a number of steel gates on my property. None of them are capable of being accelerated to lethal speed by a gust of wind, unless a twister came through and sent one flying off its hinges.
The pipe gates that are used in parks and conservation areas to block traffic are extremely heavy, and have next to no cross-section to catch the wind.

Me, too. I saw a lot of National Parks with the family in the 50s and 60s, then on my own in the 70s and 80s.
The Internet has completely ruined all once-secluded, previously unknown, out-of-the-way destinations. It used to take a LOT of work to find such places. Now you find out about them with a few clicks.
I knew a gal that had her head crushed in by a semi tractor trailer’s brake shoe.
It came right through the windshield. She was the passenger and her fiance was driving. 22 years old. She was supposed to be my wife’s bridesmaid.
This kind of thing sometimes happens.
She also told me that over there they just kill gay men if they find out. I said “isn’t it against the law”? She said, it is against but nothing ever happens.
It’s sad that she died.

Squeezing gas efficiency by making cars out of composites and light crumbling materials played a role in her death. I but my 1999 Chev S10 would have held up against that gate; in fact I would literally bet my life that in a head on collision with another vehicle at 25 MPH the other car’s driver is killed and I probably walk away.
